Watertown Rapids’ Team Release:

The Watertown Wolves Hockey ownership team of Tyler Weese and Reid Inman has acquired the Watertown Rapids Baseball team from previous owners Paul Velte and Mike Schell. Current Rapids partner Dave Oster will remain and continue to be a part of the new Rapids ownership team.

The Rapids are a member of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League and have made Watertown and historic Alex T. Duffy Ballpark their home since 2017.

Weese and Inman purchased the Wolves in 2022 and see the Rapids as a strategic alliance to go along with the Wolves, who are enjoying record attendance numbers this season.

Weese said “I couldn’t be more excited about acquiring the Watertown Rapids! It’s a team with a unique history and a staple of the local community. We see this as a boost for both the Wolves and the Rapids and look forward to solidifying both franchises.”

The Rapids remain one of the top franchises in the league and see a bright future in Watertown. The new ownership team plans to celebrate and promote the long history of Watertown baseball and continue building its popularity back to the days of the Pirates and Indians.

Oster said, “Mike and Paul built a quality organization over the last 6 years and left a great foundation and synergy to continue the Rapid’s success. I’m also excited to partner with Tyler, Reid, and Wolves General Manager Charlie Pens. This new partnership will allow us to combine resources and help the Wolves and Rapids continue the rise of our popularity and brand.”

The Rapids and Wolves teams will be a part of the tight-knit communities in the Watertown and North Country area. The team will continue to be a valuable community resource and along with The Fairgrounds and Ice Arena offer a great space for people to unite, have fun, and celebrate together. Opening Night for the Rapids is Friday, May 31.
