Mason Swinney (Alabama) stole the show with three home runs as the Amsterdam Mohawks cruised to a 13-1 victory in seven innings over the Glens Falls Dragons on a rainy Monday night at Rao Family Stadium.

Evan Siary (Mississippi State) made his fourth start on the mound for Amsterdam. The right-hander recorded three strikeouts to get things going in the opening frame.

Jesse Kuzmich (Saint Rose) made his first start for Glens Falls in his fifth appearance of the season. The right-hander walked Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) and Dakota Duffalo (Utah) before Jaxson West (Alabama) delivered a double that drove them both in for the first runs of the game. Kuzmich’s night only lasted one inning as he allowed one hit, two runs and three walks while recording one strikeout.

During that inning, Gage Miller stole his third base of the season and 20th of his career, tying him with Ed Charlton (NJIT) and Brett Coker (Mid. Tennessee St.) for the eighth most steals in Mohawks history. Additionally, the run scored by Miller was his 24th of the season and 74th with Amsterdam, putting him four shy of Josh Gardiner’s (Radford) record of 78.

Bryan Camaj (Bryant and Stratton) replaced Kuzmich in the second, making his fifth appearance for Glens Falls. His entrance wasn’t so welcoming as Mason Swinney launched the first pitch of the inning over the left field fence for his first of three home runs to put Amsterdam ahead 3-0. That also marked Swinney’s first homer with the Mohawks.

In the third inning, Dakota Duffalo led off with a single. Two batters later, he came home on a Jaxson West double, his second of the night. Jalen Debose (Florida Atlantic) then drove in West with a single to make it 5-0 through three frames.

Mason Swinney followed up his second inning blast with a leadoff triple in the fourth. A sacrifice fly from Jared Johnson (Brown) brought Swinney home for Amsterdam’s sixth run. Bryan Camaj allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) with a walk and a strikeout in three innings before coming out after the fourth.

In the fifth inning, Glens Falls broke through with a solo home run from Cam Kelly (Kalamazoo) to right field. Evan Siary’s outing came to a close at the end of the frame as that was his only run allowed and only four hits were conceded along with no walks and seven strikeouts.

In the bottom of the inning, Michael Magliocca (New College of Florida) made his second appearance as a pitcher this summer for the Dragons. Amsterdam’s offense didn’t slow down as Jaxson West tallied his third double of the night with two outs. Then, pinch hitter Carlos Martinez (Pittsburgh) hit a chopper up the middle and beat out the toss to first and an errant throw to the bag allowed West to come home for the seventh Mohawks run.

Maximilian Ramirez (Niagara) took over in the sixth, coming out of the bullpen for the fifth time this season. The right-hander recorded a 1-2-3 inning to begin his outing. In the home half of the frame, Mason Swinney went opposite field as the leadoff hitter for his second long ball of the contest. A couple of batters later, Maximus Martin (Rutgers) singled and then a double from Zach Eldred (Brockport) drove him in to make it 9-1.

Maximilian Ramirez finished out two solid innings of work by retiring all six batters faced and struck out four of them.

In the seventh inning, Luke Longo (NJIT) reached base on an error, Jaxson West was walked and Bryce Hubbard (Mississippi State) hit a single to load the bases. Then, Mason Swinney lifted a 2-1 pitch over the left field wall to cap off an incredible 4-for-4 performance with his third homer of the night. That swing made it 13-1 and ended the game in the seventh as the ten-run rule went into effect. Magliocca finished with seven hits and runs (five earned) allowed with one walk and two strikeouts in 2 ⅓ innings.

Alabama teammates Mason Swinney and Jaxson West went a combined 7-for-7 in the victory. In addition to Swinney’s three home runs and triple, the infielder tallied six runs batted in and scored four runs. Meanwhile, all three of West’s hits were doubles as he had three runs batted in and scored three runs.

Eight players recorded a hit for the Mohawks and they scored a run in every inning of the 13-1 triumph. Evan Siary got the win, his third in four starts, improving to 3-0.

Jesse Kuzmich suffered the loss for Glens Falls, dropping to 0-1 on the season. Glens Falls falls to 6-10 with the result and faces Mohawk Valley on Tuesday at 6:35.
