(June 17 Game)

Tyler Sausville (New Haven) continued the dominant start to his season as the Mohawks defeated the Watertown Rapids 6-2 on Saturday at the Duffy Fairgrounds.

The Rapids only managed 3 total hits in the game, while the Mohawks had 15.

Sausville was immediately staked to a 2-0 lead before taking the mound as Jalen DeBose (FAU) led off the game with a single and Zach Eldred (Brockport) drove him in with a double to put the Mohawks on the board. Eldred would score later in the inning on a Jaxon West (Alabama) single.

The Mohawks put up 4 in the fourth inning. Cam Gurney (Utah), who was 3-for-3 on the day, scored on a Mason Swinney (Alabama) single, 2 runs scored on a Bruer Webster (Utah) single and Watertown error and Jared Johnson (Brown) drove in Webster with an RBI single to put the Mohawks up 6-0.

Sausville took a no-hitter into the fifth inning when Nick Mazzotta hit a leadoff single. Tyler went 6 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and recorded 7 strikeouts.

When asked how important it is to pitch with this Mohawks offence Sausville said, “It’s really big. It allows you to throw your game…I’ve had a lot of trust in these guy, if it’s a close game, or not a close game, they’re going to put up runs.”

Joey Colucci (Maryland) came in from the pen and allowed 1 hit over the next 2 innings. Von Baker (Cornell) was 1 out away from the shutout in the ninth when David McCann hit a 2-run home run to get Watertown on the board.

Tyler Sausville moved to 3-0 on the season as the Mohawks improved to 11-1, while Derrike Goutremount took the loss falling to 0-1 as Watertown fell to 4-8.

The Mohawks will be on the road Sunday to play the Utica Blue Sox at 5:15.
