AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – The Saugerties Stallions’ season comes to an end after a 5-3 loss to the Amsterdam Mohawks in the PGCBL East Division Championship Monday night.

The Stallions struck first getting to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning off an RBI double by left fielder Garrison Berkley. The UT Arlington commit would later score on a dropped strike three that had the ball roll all the way to the backstop to make it 2-0 Saugerties.

Amsterdam would later score in the bottom of the second inning when left fielder Ian Petrutz sacrificed himself to trade an out for a run to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Mohawks would later tack on another run when right fielder Zach Gardiner sent an RBI single into the outfield to score shortstop Cameron Love to tie the game at 2-2 after three innings.

Saugerties would not go down without a fight, as the Stallions retook the lead off an RBI single from center fielder Jahlani Rogers to give them a 3-2 lead.

After trading outs back and forth for an inning and a half, Amsterdam would open up offensively.

Three runs plated for the Mohawks on back-to-back RBI singles by catcher Mark Black and center fielder Nick Giamarusti to take a 5-3 lead.

The Stallions would trail the rest of the way, getting runners on base, but being shut down by Amsterdam’s arms.

The Mohawks advance to the PGCBL Championship series, as the Stallions finish their season short of a second straight title.
