The PGCBL has named Geneva Red Wings utilityman Nick Serce (Alfred State College) and Oneonta Outlaws pitcher Tyler Sausville (University of New Haven) as the PGCBL Player and Pitcher of the Week.

Serce batted 9-for-22 in six games for the Red Wings this week, hitting two home runs and driving in six runs while scoring himself five times. He reached base in each game, which included a 3-for-5 night with a double, run, three runs batted in, and game-tying, two-run home run in the top of the ninth that turned into an extra innings win at Batavia on Sunday. He also threw the final two innings against the Muckdogs to pick up the win. For the season, Serce is hitting .319 with five home runs, second most in the league, to go with his .993 OPS. He also holds a 2-1 record, sporting an ERA of 3.14 and averaging almost a strikeout and a half per inning in a team-leading seven games on the mound.

Serce, a native of Irondequoit, N.Y., attends Alfred State College, hit .374 with nine home runs and 35 runs batted in for the Pioneers during the 2022 season.

Sausville had a dominant start for the Outlaws against the league leading Amsterdam Mohawks this past Wednesday, allowing just three walks and a pair of hits to the league’s best offense while striking nine in his seven shutout innings. He now has two wins this summer with the fifth-lowest ERA in the league at 1.90, and sits atop the strikeout leaderboard with 42. He also holds a .80 WHIP and .119 batting average against, good for second in the league.

This is the second time this season that an Oneonta Outlaw has won the Pitcher of the Week, after Christian Coombes (St. Peter’s) took home the nod in week one.

Sausville, reigning from Colonie, N.Y., is set to attend the University of New Haven in the fall. He was the Co-Pitcher of the Year in the Suburban Council after going 6-1 with a save and 72 strikeouts in eight games in the spring for Colonie High School. He also touted a 1.55 ERA and .96 WHIP for the Raiders.

Tune in next week to see who the next award winners are!
