West Division Player of the Week: John Schroeder, Elmira Pioneers
West Division Pitcher of the Week: Gardner Meeks, Elmira Pioneers
Elmira Pioneers catcher/outfielder John Schroeder (Florida Atlantic) has been chosen as the West Division Player of the Week. He batted .393, with a home run, scoring eight runs during the week. His 13 RBIs during the stretch led all players.
In his most recent game on Sunday at Newark, Schroeder hit two triples and put up an impressive five RBIs. He now has 24 RBIs for the season and a .330 batting average.
Elmira has also claimed the West Division Pitcher of the Week Award, with Gardner Meeks (Roanoke) being chosen for the honor. It’s his second time bringing home this award this summer.
On July 17th, Meeks came in against Geneva and pitched a scoreless final inning to earn the save. On July 20th, he started against Jamestown, pitching the full (six inning) game, allowing just one run in the win. Then on Sunday, he had another appearance, pitching the final three frames scoreless at Newark for another save.
