SAUGERTIES, NY – The Saugerties Stallions eclipse the .500 mark for the second time this season by defeating the Albany Dutchmen 1-0 Saturday night at Cantine Field.

The top of the first inning had the Dutchmen get on first base via an error by third baseman Brandon Fish. The Dutchmen could not advance the runner.

Heading into the bottom of the first inning, Saugerties loaded the bases with a hit by pitch from second baseman Evan Goforth and two singles by Fish and first baseman Jake Skrine. Center fielder Easton Bertrand was next to bat and got hit by a pitch to keep the bases loaded while scoring Goforth to take an early 1-0 lead.

That would be the only run scored in the game.

The next two half-innings showed only one hit by shortstop Alex Rodriguez as he hit a single with two outs.

What followed was six straight innings of hitless baseball for the Dutchmen; the majority coming from starting right-handed pitcher Coulson Buchanan.

Buchanan ended his night with 6.0 innings pitched, allowing one hit, zero runs with seven strikeouts, bringing his season total to 30 strikeouts, which makes him second in the PGCBL in strikeouts this season.

Right-handed pitcher Andy Auffant was called from the bullpen and threw a hitless inning to start his night out.

Extra hitter David Shackelford broke the game’s hitless streak with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Auffant would give up three more hits, but keep Albany off the board, alongside right-handed pitcher Praxie Vigil, recording the save after his top of the ninth inning appearance. Vigil would only give up one hit and struck out one batter.

The Stallions will travel back to Damaschke Field to take on the Oneonta Outlaws at 7:05 p.m. Monday night. You can watch the game live on the Saugerties Stallions YouTube channel.
