PGCBL Partners with County and Local Officials to Request $250M for Facility Revitalization Efforts of Existing Baseball Stadiums and Sports Venues in Upstate NY

Oneida, NY: The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) has partnered with County Executives and city leaders across the footprint of the PGCBL to request $250 million in state funding for communities that are owners of municipal stadiums. The PGCBL encompasses sixteen municipalities throughout upstate New York.

A letter written to New York State Governor Kathy Hochul requesting state funding was authored by Oneida County Executive, Anthony Picente Jr., and PGCBL President & General Counsel, Robert Julian. The letter was presented at today’s New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) annual meeting in Albany, NY.

Governor Hochul and the New York State Legislature are currently considering providing nearly $1 billion in taxpayer funds to build a new stadium for the Buffalo Bills. The PGCBL and its local county leaders have requested to be included in consideration for municipal funding to upgrade and improve ballparks that need important, overdue infrastructure and amenity upgrades.

PGCBL and local leaders are striving to ensure equity for smaller communities throughout the state and enable them to make needed ballpark repairs and enhancements. State funding will protect and stabilize these stadiums as long term recreational and entertainment assets. The facilities are part of the tourism infrastructure that attract visitors to PGCBL communities and spur significant economic activity. The stadiums are rich in history and are a part of the fabric of each community.

By funding ballpark upgrades, we can restore these great venues to the proud facilities they once used to be,” said PGCBL President, Robert Julian. “This investment will provide recreational opportunities and civic engagement that will enhance the quality of life in the communities throughout the PGCBL.”
