An extra inning walk-off home run and a pair of teams picking up their first wins of the season highlighted Monday’s PGCBL action. Read about each of the six matchups!
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 1, Watertown Rapids 0
Despite Mohawk Valley only scoring one run, the pitching staff of Ohjiro Motoki (Manhattan) and Bo Buckley (Fairfield) held up their end of the bargain, surrendering just two hits to the Rapids. Ernesto Polanco (Coastal Carolina) drove in the only run of the game with a fourth-inning RBI double as part of a 2-for-4 day.
Geneva Red Wings 4, Niagara Power 2
The Red Wings scored the first four runs of the game, two each in the second and seventh innings, to pick up their first win of the season. Cole Fleming (NJIT) had an RBI double in the second inning as part of a 2-for-3 night, while Max Hitman (St. Joseph’s) had an RBI double of his own in the seventh. Augie Waters (Holy Cross) started and tossed five shutout innings, while Sam Brumbaugh (Christian Brothers) followed it up with three scoreless relief innings.
Newark Pilots 8, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 5
Jamestown scored the first four runs of the game in the first two innings, but the Pilots battled back and scored five runs in the third to take the lead for good and earned their first win of the 2022 campaign. Aaron Whitley (Rochester) had a two-run single as part of that five-run third and finished his night 5-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Chris Lowe (Emerson) threw five innings of one-run relief for Newark.
Albany Dutchmen 7, Saugerties Stallions 6
Danny Rogers (Rutgers) delivered the first walk-off home run of the 2022 season in the bottom of the 10th as the Dutchmen stayed undefeated. The Stallions went into the top of the ninth inning trailing 5-2 but rallied to tie the game and later send it to extras. Saugerties scored once in the top of the 10th before Rogers’ walk-off two-run home run. Rogers ended the night 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Amsterdam Mohawks 9, Glens Falls Dragons 5
The Dragons led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Amsterdam rallied in that inning with six runs to take the lead that they didn’t give back. That inning was highlighted by a Hunter Thomas (Rend Lake CC) two-run double that gave the Mohawks a 4-2 lead. The Mohawks later added a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth as they stayed undefeated. Amsterdam hurler Arlon Butts (Rend Lake CC) threw five innings of one-run ball in the win.

Trailing 5-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Doubledays rallied to tie the game at five, an inning highlighted by an RBI single off the bat of Blake Murray (Montana State). However, Batavia took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Alec Maag (Adelphi) to score Brian Fry (Toledo), which was the eventual game-winner.
