There were six matchups tonight throughout the PGCBL. Here is what happened.
Saugerties Stallions 3, Oneonta Outlaws 7
Saugerties got off to a hot start in the top of the first inning, where Brandon Fish’s (UMass Lowell) RBI and run accounted for two of the team’s three runs. Oneonta tied the game up in the bottom of the first before a 2-RBI single by Ryan Weiss (Canisius) put the Outlaws ahead. Matthew DuBois (Saint Peters) received the win, allowing two earned runs over seven innings.
Watertown Rapids 3, Auburn DoubleDays 13
Auburn’s day started with three shutout innings from Chris Auclair (D’Youville). Then, starting in the second inning, the DoubleDays scored in every frame. Luke Hanson (Virginia) and Ryan Cesarini (St Joseph’s) each had three RBIs, including a 2-run home run in the fifth inning for Cesarini. Watertown’s Aidan Maxwell (SUNY Cobleskill) lasted four innings and allowed five earned runs in the losing decision.
Newark Pilots 0, Geneva Red Wings 13
Six innings of one-hit ball by Jack Eshleman (Hamilton) highlight Geneva’s win. The lone hit for Newark was off the bat of Fernando Espinal (Cayuga C.C.). Red Wings Wyatt Patchett (Le Moyne), Luke Picchiotti (Illinois Chicago), and Charlie Furlong (Colby) had multi-RBI games while four others contributed a run.
Amsterdam Mohawks 11, Albany Dutchmen 5
Gage Miller’s (Bishop State C.C.) leadoff home run gave Amsterdam an early lead in the battle between the top teams in the East division. The Mohawks never gave up this lead and put the game out of reach with a 4-run ninth inning on a pair of singles by Miller and Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State). Miller and Coker combined for seven of Amsterdam’s nine RBIs. Amsterdam becomes the first team to reach 20 wins this season. In the loss, Alex Brill (Ohio Dominican) went one for three with a two-run home run.
Niagra Power 1, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 13
Niagra took advantage of Julian Thompson’s (Stephan F. Austin) error to take an early lead. The lead was short-lived as Jamestown scored four in the bottom of the inning and starter Travis Perry (Youngstown St) held the Power hitless through the last five innings. Jamestown put up ten runs in less than four innings of work for Niagra’s Andrew Ayers.
Glens Falls Dragons 0, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 16
Mohawk Valley’s seven-run first inning gave starter Colin Gauthier (Rhode Island College) room to breathe in his one-hit shutout. The lone hit came in his fifth and final inning off the bat of Anthony Ruzzo (Union College). Pete Durocher (Manhattan College) led the DiamondDawgs’ attack with a home run and 5 RBIs.
