Five games were completed on Saturday evening, and three contests were postponed.

Niagara Power 3, Auburn DoubleDays 1

The Power (9-5-1) grinded out a 3-1 win over the DoubleDays at Auburn’s Falcon Park on Saturday to maintain the best winning percentage in the West Division Standings. Niagara’s .633 winning percentage puts them just ahead of Batavia (12-7), who has a .632 winning percentage, in the division standings.

Niagara left-handed starting pitcher Tommy Peltier (Canisius) improved his record to 2-0 this summer after allowing four hits, three walks and zero runs with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work against the DoubleDays. Right-hander Andrew Damiani (Niagara County) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts for the Power to close out the game. Damiani now has two saves this season and he has yet to allow a single run in 14.0 innings pitched.

Niagara shortstop Zach Evans (Lenoir-Rhyne), extra hitter Andrew Stillinger (Niagara County), designated hitter Steve Merkel (Niagara County) and catcher Jeremy Glinski (D’Youville) each recorded two hits during the victory. Stillinger, Merkel and Glinski each provided an RBI.

Center fielder Christian Bauman (Brookdale) drove in Auburn’s lone run during the setback, while second baseman Michael Whooley (Villanova) recorded a team-best two hits.

Right-hander Teddie Nelson (Bates) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief with three strikeouts for the DoubleDays.

The Power are now 2-0 against the DoubleDays so far this season. They will meet again in Niagara on July 2.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks 10, Newark Pilots 7

The Pilots (2-14) out-hit the Tarp Skunks (9-6-1) 14-8, but Jamestown scored two runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and two in the sixth to upend the Pilots at home on Saturday in West Division action.

The Tarp Skunks tallied two RBI walks, and two RBI hit-by-pitches during their five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth. They scored the fifth run on a wild pitch.

Shortstop Grady Mee (Western Michigan), catcher Henry Juan (Williams) and extra hitter Tommy Googins (Princeton) each recorded two RBI for Jamestown during the victory. Jamestown center fielder Zach Kent (Wagner) contributed two runs scored and an RBI, while left fielder Brayden Johnson (Western Kentucky) added one hit, two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Mee registered a team-high two hits during the win, including a double in the opening inning.

Jamestown starting right-handed pitcher Joe Reitebach (Gannon) earned the win on the mound after completing 5.2 innings of work, then right-hander Ryan Rafalski (Mercyhurst) pitched the final 3.1 innings with five strikeouts to record the save.

Left fielder Justin DiMartino (Farmingdale State) and second baseman Harris McReynolds (Northeast Mississippi) both recorded a game-high three hits during the setback, while catcher Gage Boatman (East Central) registered a game-high three runs batted in.

The Tarp Skunks are now 3-0 against the Pilots so far this season. The two teams will play again on Monday at Newark’s Colburn Park.

Amsterdam Mohawks 11, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 2

The Mohawks (17-1) earned a big win at home over the DiamondDawgs (14-5) in a matchup between the two teams at the top of the East Division Standings. The first-place Mohawks extended their winning streak to eight games.

Amsterdam’s first and only loss this season came against Mohawk Valley on June 15. The DiamondDawgs are now 1-1 against the Mohawks in 2023. The two sides are not scheduled to play again during the regular season.

The Mohawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings on Saturday with the help of a leadoff solo home from third baseman Gage Miller (Bishop State) in the bottom of the first. Miller, who leads the PGCBL with five home runs so far this summer, finished the contest with three hits, three runs scored, a walk and two runs batted in.

Amsterdam first baseman Luke Longo (NJIT) recorded a game-high three RBI during the victory, including an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

Left-handed starting pitcher Tyler Sausville (New Haven) improved his record to 4-0 this summer after limiting the visitors to three hits, three walks and two runs with five strikeouts through the first 6.0 innings. Sausville now holds a 0.78 ERA through four starts this summer (23.0 innings pitched).

Right-handers Ryan Taffe (Fairfield), Gio Conte (UConn) and Jack Seppings (Brown) each threw 1.0 scoreless inning in relief for the Mohawks to close out the victory. Seppings has yet to allow a run through seven appearances this summer (9.1 innings pitched).

Mohawk Valley first baseman Sebastian Mueller (Quinnipiac), who recorded a team-high two hits during the setback, drove in both MV runs on Saturday with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth.

Batavia Muckdogs 9, Elmira Pioneers 2

The Muckdogs (12-7) bested the Pioneers (11-7) on Saturday at Dwyer Stadium to claim their fourth consecutive victory in West Division action.

Elmira scored both of their runs in the top of the first, then the Muckdogs held the visitors scoreless during the final eight innings.

Batavia right-handed starting pitcher Jack Keeler (Fort Lauderdale) earned the win on the mound after allowing three hits, two walks and zero earned runs with two strikeouts through the first 5.0 innings. Left-hander Chad Falcon (St. John’s) threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, then right-hander Ben Weber (Salve Regina) conceded zero hits, one walk and zero runs with four strikeouts during the final 2.0 innings.

Batavia third baseman Victor Alongi (Genesee) recorded two hits and a game-high three RBI during the victory, while left fielder Matt DeStefano (Stony Brook) provided two hits, two walks an RBI and a run scored. Designated hitter Anthony Calabro (West Georgia) scored a game-high two runs for the Muckdogs.

Batavia and Elmira are both 2-2 against each other so far this season. They will play again on July 2 in Elmira.

Utica Blue Sox 12, Boonville Lumberjacks 1

With the help of an eight-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, the Blue Sox (7-8) defeated the Lumberjacks (6-12) in seven innings via run rule on Saturday at Donovan Stadium.

Utica left-handed starting pitcher Holden de Jong (NJIT) scattered two hits and six walks in 5.0 innings while holding the visitors to one run with three strikeouts to earn the victory, his first of the season.

Right-hander Trey Sejnoha (St. Thomas) threw 2.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Blue Sox to close out the win.

Utica shortstop Pablo Santos (Rutgers) and right fielder Wyatt Jensen (St. Thomas) both tallied three RBI during the win, while second baseman Andre Demetral (NIU) registered two hits, one walk, two runs and two RBI. First baseman Will Shannon (Hillsdale) contributed two doubles to the Utica cause to go along with an RBI and a run scored. Left fielder CJ Wisniewski (NJIT) added two runs, two hits and an RBI.

Boonville first baseman Santiago Jimenez (Prince George) recorded a team-best two hits during the setback, and he drove in the team’s lone run with a double in the top of the fourth.

The Blue Sox are now 3-1 against the Lumberjacks this season. The two sides will meet again on June 30 in Boonville.
