Game 1: Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 22, Oneonta Outlaws 7… Game 2: Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 2, Oneonta Outlaws 1

The DiamondDawgs (14-4) claimed two wins over the Outlaws (6-10) on Friday during a doubleheader at Mohawk Valley’s Veterans Memorial Park. The Dawgs piled on the runs in game one, which ended in five innings via run rule, then Mohawk Valley claimed a one-run win in the nightcap, which also ended after five innings.

Game 1 – Mohawk Valley catcher Mitch Balint (Carson-Newman) tallied two hits, two runs and a game-high five RBI, while center fielder Jaden Ross (Hudson Valley) went 4 for 5 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBI during the victory. Outfielder Nick Sturino (Fairfield) contributed two hits, one walk, three runs scored and three RBI, while third baseman Sam Miller (Columbia) added four RBI, two runs scored, a walk and two hits, including a three-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Balint currently leads the PGCBL with 31 RBI, while Miller has the second most RBI in the league with 19 through 16 games played.

MV right-handed starting pitcher Colin Dowlen improved his record to 2-0 this season after completing 4.0 innings of work against the Outlaws.

Oneonta catcher Caden Marsters (Erskine) recorded two hits, one run scored and a team-high two RBI during the setback.

Game 2 – The DiamondDawgs scored both runs in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run double from Jaden Ross (Hudson Valley). Right-hander Chris Palmer started on the mound and completed 2.0 innings of work with one run allowed, then left-hander Marco Siracusa (Pace) got the final nine outs to earn the victory, his first of the season. Siracusa did not allow a hit during 3.0 innings of work.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks 5, Niagara Power 2

During the fourth meeting this season between the Tarp Skunks (8-6-1) and the Power (8-4-1), Jamestown came away with a big win on the road to improve their position in the West Division Standings.

Prior to Friday’s meeting, the two teams each held a 1-1-1 record against one another. Jamestown earned a 10-3 win over Niagara on June 7, then the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie on June 13, which preceded a 2-0 Power win over the Tarp Skunks on June 14.

On Friday evening at Niagara’s Sal Maglie Stadium, the Tarp Skunks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second with the help of a three-run double from right fielder Luc Fuller (Drury).

Right-hander Ryan Bilka (Wagner) started on the mound for Jamestown and allowed just three hits, zero walks and zero runs with four strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Left-hander Frank Villella (Nova Southeastern) battled through the final 4.0 innings for the visitors, scattering three hits and six walks while limiting the Power to two runs.

Niagara left-handed pitcher Zach Johnson (Tiffin) relieved the starting pitcher to begin the fourth inning and went on to complete 4.0 innings of work with zero hits, two walks, zero runs allowed and four strikeouts.

Niagara designated hitter Andrew Stillinger (Niagara County) recorded a team-best two hits during the setback.

The Power currently still have the best winning percentage in the West Division (0.654). The Muckdogs have the most wins in the division with an 11-7 record, but they have the third-best winning percentage. The Tarp Skunks sit at fourth in the division with a 0.567 winning percentage.

Boonville Lumberjacks 11, Watertown Rapids 5

The Rapids (6-11) scored five runs in the bottom of the first on Friday to take an early lead, but the Lumberjacks (6-11) answered with five runs of their own during the next inning, and they held the Rapids scoreless for the rest of the game to earn a victory in East Division action.

After a rough first inning during which the Lumberjacks committed two errors, Boonville left-handed starting pitcher Griff Minor (Stillman) settled in and allowed just two hits, zero walks and zero runs with two strikeouts over the next 5.0 innings to earn the win. Minor allowed just one earned run during his 6.0 total innings of work.

Right-hander Bryce Collis (St. John Fisher) relieved Minor and threw 3.0 scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Boonville third baseman Alex Angulo (Gettysburg) recorded three hits, two runs scored, and a game-high four runs batted in during the victory. Extra hitter Jake Hatch (Emerson) also registered two runs scored and three hits for the Lumberjacks.

Watertown third baseman Pranav Sundar (Cuesta) provided a team-best two runs batted in during the setback.

Auburn DoubleDays 10, Elmira Pioneers 0

The DoubleDays (8-7) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth to end the game via run rule. The contest was played at Auburn’s Falcon Park.

Auburn starting left-handed pitcher Jake Danyluk (SUNY Oswego) earned his first win of the season after allowing two hits, two walks and zero runs with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work against the Pioneers.

Right-hander Andrew Isdale (Northern Colorado) relieved Danyluk and held the visitors to two hits, zero walks and zero runs with four strikeouts during the final 3.0 innings to close out the win.

Auburn left fielder Christian Melillo (Southwestern) tallied a game-high three hits, two runs and a game-high three RBI, while extra hitter Hazel Martinez (Union) provided two hits, one walk, one run scored and two RBI. Shortstop Harrison Campi (Wofford) added two hits, one walk and two runs scored to the Auburn cause. Melillo recorded a triple and a home run during the victory.

Elmira first baseman Joe Muzio (Eckerd) recorded a single, a double and a walk in three at bats during the setback.

Albany Dutchmen 9, Glens Falls Dragons 1

The Dutchmen (6-10) snapped a five-game skid on Friday with a road win at Glens Falls (5-9).

The Dutchmen scored six of their runs during the top of the third inning.

Right fielder Anderson Moreno (Southern New Hampshire) recorded a double, a run scored and a team-best two RBI during the victory, while shortstop Joe Karpierz (Xavier) provided an RBI, a run scored and a game-high three hits, and first baseman Korson Hastings (Trinity) added two hits and two runs scored.

Albany starting left-hander pitcher CJ Kuentzel (Iona) allowed just one hits, two walks and zero runs with six strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Right-handers Greg Mays (SUNY Cortland), Danny Iglesias (St. Thomas) and Grant Smeltzer (Fairfield) each threw 1.0 scoreless inning in relief for the Dutchmen.

Shortstop Zander Teator (Babson) drove in the Dragons’ lone run, while right-handed pitcher Jesse Kuzmich (Saint Rose) allowed one hit, zero walks and zero runs with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings in relief.

Batavia Muckdogs 3, Newark Pilots 2

The Muckdogs (11-7) held off the Pilots (2-13) at Newark’s Colburn Park on Friday evening to claim their third consecutive victory in West Division action.

The Muckdogs now have the most wins in the West Division, but they have the third-best winning percentage.

Left fielder Matt DeStefano (Stony Brook) recorded an RBI double in the top of the second, designated hitter Adam Agresti (St. John’s) delivered an RBI double in the top of the third, and right fielder Josh Leadem (Rochester) drove in Batavia’s final run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.

Agresti and DeStefano both finished the game with a team-high two hits.

Left fielder Michael Mugan (Southeast Missouri State) led Newark at the plate with two runs scored, a walk, an RBI and two hits, including a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to make it a one-run game.

Batavia left-handed starting pitcher Preston Prince (Niagara) earned the win on the mound after allowing one hit, four walks and one run with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.  Right-handed pitcher Garret Beaver (Salisbury) pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to secure the win and record the save for Batavia.
