Seven games were completed on Wednesday, including a doubleheader between Jamestown and Batavia.

Game 1: Jamestown Tarp Skunks 9, Batavia Muckdogs 2…. Game 2: Batavia Muckdogs 7, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 2

The Tarp Skunks (7-5-1) and the Batavia Muckdogs (9-7) split their doubleheader on Wednesday at Jamestown’s Diethrick Park. Both contests were seven innings.

Game 1 – The Tarp Skunks bested the Muckdogs in game one with the help of a six-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Jamestown recorded just three hits during the six-run inning, but Batavia made three of their four total errors during the frame.

Third baseman Matt Thompson (Youngstown State), right fielder Paul Catalano (Fairfield) and center fielder Matthew Best (UMBC) recorded two hits and an RBI each for Jamestown during the victory.

Jamestown right-handed starting pitcher Kasey Gilman (Princeton) tossed a complete game to earn his first victory of the campaign. In 7.0 innings of work, Gilman allowed seven hits, one walk and two runs with seven strikeouts.

Game 2 – With the help of a three-run home run from center fielder Anthony Calabro (West Georgia) in the top of the second inning, the Muckdogs bounced back with a victory during the second half of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Calabro finished the contest with two hits and a game-high four runs batted in.

Batavia right fielder Josh Leadem (Rochester) recorded a hit, a stolen base and a team-high two runs scored during the victory. Batavia starting pitcher Rijnaldo Euson (Georgia Southwestern State) improved his season record to 2-0 by tossing 4.2 innings on Wednesday. Euson tallied eight strikeouts while allowing four hits, two walks and two runs. Right-hander Michael Pedraza (Kentucky State) relieved Euson and completed 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to secure the victory.

Jamestown shortstop Grady Mee (Western Michigan) recorded two hits and two runs scored during the setback, while third baseman Matt Thompson (Youngstown State) registered two hits and two runs batted in. Left-handed pitcher Evan Berta (Fairfield) threw 3.0 scoreless innings in relief for the Tarp Skunks.

Watertown Rapids 7, Boonville Lumberjacks 5

A six-run inning in the bottom of the third lifted the Rapids (6-9) to a victory over the Lumberjacks (4-11) at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Stadium in East Division action on Wednesday evening.

The Lumberjacks led 5-0 midway through the third before Watertown took the lead with ther big inning.

Watertown right-handed relief pitcher Derrike Goutremount (Utica) entered the game to begin the fifth inning and went on to complete 2.0 scoreless innings in relief to hold the one-run lead.

Right-hander Ryan Peters (Brockport) relieved Goutremount and allowed just one base runner with four strikeouts during the final 3.0 innings to close out the game.

Watertown designated hitter Nick Mazzotta (Fairleigh Dickinson) tallied a walk, a run scored, an RBI and a team-high two hits during the victory, while third baseman Pranav Sundar (Cuesta) hammered a solo home run to lead off the Rapids’ six-run inning.

Amsterdam Mohawks 15, Albany Dutchmen 1

The Mohawks (15-1) claimed a convincing road win over the Dutchmen (5-10) on Wednesday to extend their winning streak to six games. The Mohawks nine-game winning streak to start the season is tied for the longest winning streak so far this season in the PGCBL.

The Mohawks led the Dutchmen by a score of 8-1 after eight innings on Wednesday, then the defending champs added seven runs in the top of the ninth to double their lead.

Center fielder/extra hitter Zach Eldred (Brockport), first baseman Luke Longo (NJIT), left fielder Dakota Duffalo (Utah) and second baseman Alex Irizarry (Maryland) each recorded two RBI for Amsterdam during the win. Eldred added two hits and a game-high three runs scored, while Duffalo tallied a game-high three hits.

Amsterdam used four pitchers on Wednesday, and they collectively allowed just three hits in nine innings. Starting pitcher Carson Pierce (Oklahoma) went 4.0 innings and surrendered one hit, two walks and zero runs with three strikeouts. Right-hander Jack Brodsky (Tampa) relieved Pierce and completed 2.0 innings of work. Brodsky allowed one hit, zero walks and zero runs with four strikeouts, and he was credited with the victory. Righty Joey Colucci (Maryland) did not allow a hit, walk or run with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings. Albany scored their lone run on left-hander Carlos Martinez (Pittsburgh) in the bottom of the ninth, but Martinez got all three outs via strikeout to end the game.

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 17, Glens Falls Dragons 4

The DiamondDawgs (11-4) scored seven runs in the top of the fourth, and eight in the sixth on their way to claiming a victory over the Dragons (3-8) in seven innings via run rule.

Mohawk Valley center fielder Jaden Ross (Hudson Valley) tallied three hits, a walk, a run scored and a game-high three RBI during the victory, while shortstop Sam Miller (Columbia) and third baseman Chance Checca (Herkimer) recorded three RBI each. Checca added two hits, a walk and three runs scored, including a two-run home run, his first long ball of the year.

Right-handed pitcher Troy Butler (UNC Charlotte) earned the win on the mound for Mohawk Valley after tallying eight strikeouts with one hit, three walks and two runs allowed in 4.0 innings of work. Right-hander Owen Zadrozny (Merrimack) threw the final 3.0 innings for the DiamondDawgs.

Second baseman Johan Sandoval (Bryant and Stratton) launched a solo home run for Glens Falls during the setback.

Newark Pilots 7, Auburn DoubleDays 5

The Pilots (2-11) scored four runs in the bottom of the second with the help of a two-run single from catcher Dom Camera (Hofstra). Left fielder Michael Mugan (Southeast Missouri State) recorded three hits, an RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored for Newark during the victory, while extra hitter Justin DiMartino (Farmingdale State) added two hits and two runs scored.

Newark right fielder Tyler Walters (Georgia College) contributed two walks, a run scored, a stolen base and an RBI triple.

Newark relief pitchers Cam Kingsley (St. John Fisher), Owen Donohue (Salisbury) and Michael Walsh (Maryland) kept the DoubleDays (7-7) scoreless during the final three innings. Walsh earned the save after stranding a runner on base in the top of the ninth.

Auburn second baseman Carson Gross (Northern Colorado) registered two hits, two stolen bases and a team-high two runs scored during the setback, while extra hitter Bobby Stang (Georgia Southern) provided two hits, a run scored and a team-best two runs batted in.

Saugerties Stallions 9, Oneonta Outlaws 5

The Stallions (6-5) took a 9-5 lead in the top of the sixth, then they held the Outlaws (6-7) scoreless during the final four innings to claim their third consecutive victory and avenge a June 18 loss to Oneonta.

Right-hander Jarek Woodward (Grand Canyon) was credited with the win for Saugerties after throwing a scoreless inning in the bottom of the fourth. Left-hander Ryder Moye (Wofford) allowed just one Oneonta runner on base during the seventh and eighth innings combined, then righty Izaiah Ayala (Mt. San Antonio) pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth with two strikeouts to secure the win for Saugerties.

Center fielder Eli Small (Kentucky) registered two hits, a walk and a game-high two RBI for the Stallions, while left fielder Conor Kelly (UMass Lowell) added two hits and two runs scored.

Oneonta third baseman Bayram Hot (Marist) tallied two hits, one walk, one RBI and two runs scored during the setback, while center fielder Dakota Britt (Herkimer) contributed two hits, two walks and a run scored.
