Seven games were completed on Tuesday, including a doubleheader between Amsterdam and Boonville. Three of Tuesday’s contests were ended in walk-off fashion.
Game 1: Amsterdam Mohawks 8, Boonville Lumberjacks 6… Game 2: Amsterdam Mohawks 7, Boonville Lumberjacks 5
The Amsterdam Mohawks (14-1) claimed a pair of two-run victories at home over the Boonville Lumberjacks (4-10) on Tuesday at Shuttleworth Park. Both contests were seven innings.
Game 1 – The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings with the help of RBI singles from catcher Zach Rogacki (Alvernia), extra hitter Devonte Bailey (Alabama State) and second baseman Eli Snelson (Union).
The Mohawks got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, then they tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth with the help of an RBI double and a run scored from shortstop Mason Swinney (Alabama).
Rogacki put Boonville back on top in the top of the fifth with a two-run single, but Amsterdam answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame (with the help of an RBI double from extra hitter Dakota Duffalo (Utah)) to tie the game at 6-6.
Third baseman Gage Miller (Bishop State) drove in the go-ahead run with a single to center field in the bottom of the sixth, then the Mohawks added an insurance run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Cam Gurney (Utah).
Right-handed pitcher Jack Seppings (Brown) entered the game for Amsterdam to begin the top of the sixth, and he was credited with the win after allowing two hits, zero walks and zero runs with five strikeouts during the final 2.0 innings.
Game 2 – Amsterdam took a 7-2 lead after four innings and thwarted a late comeback attempt from the Lumberjacks. Miller tallied two runs, a hit, a walk and two RBI during the victory, while Swinney recorded a team-high two hits to go along with an RBI and a run scored.
Amsterdam right-hander Colin Maloney (Rhode Island) was credited with the win after throwing 2.0 scoreless innings in relief (Maloney relieved the starting pitcher prior to the fourth inning). Right-hander Gio Conte (UConn) recorded the save after stranding the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.
The Mohawks scored four of their runs in the bottom of the fourth with the help of a two-run triple by Miller.
Rogacki delivered two hits, two RBI, a walk and a run scored during the second half of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
The Mohawks will return to action on Wednesday when they play at Albany at 6:35 p.m. The Lumberjacks will travel to Watertown on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup against the Rapids.
Watertown Rapids 6, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 5
The Rapids (5-9) won in walk-off fashion in extra innings on Tuesday over the DiamondDawgs (10-4) at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Stadium.
Watertown designated hitter/pitcher Nick Mazzota (Fairleigh Dickinson) earned the victory on the mound after tossing the ninth and tenth innings, and he also delivered the walk-off RBI on a ground ball to the right side of the infield.
Mohawk Valley tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth on an RBI single from from Mitch Balint (Carson-Newman), then MV left-handed pitcher Aidan Colagrande (Fairfield) tossed a scoreless frame in the bottom of the ninth to send the contest to extra innings.
Balint, the league leader in hits and runs batted in, finished Tuesday’s contest with a team-high three hits (including his league-best 10th double of the season) to go along with an RBI and two runs scored.
Watertown center fielder Nick Locurto (Virginia Tech) recorded two runs scored and a team-high three hits during the victory, while left fielder Jax Miller (Walsh) provided a team-high two RBI via a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth that gave the Rapids a 5-2 lead.
Watertown starting pitcher Jared Duquette (Saint Michael’s) went 5.0 innings and recorded six strikeouts with two runs and zero walks allowed.
The Rapids will host the Boonville Lumberjacks on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., while the DiamondDawgs will play at Glens Falls on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Elmira Pioneers 4, Batavia Muckdogs 1
The Pioneers (9-4), who have now won five of their last six games, tallied three runs in the bottom of the third inning on Tuesday at Dunn Field against the Batavia Muckdogs (8-6) to lift themselves to a 4-1 victory at home.
Elmira starting left-handed pitcher Bradyn Coletta (Lenoir-Rhyne) went 5.0 innings and allowed five hits, zero earned runs and three walks with four strikeouts to improve his record to 2-0 on the year. Right-hander Christian Zilli (Seton Hill) pitched the final 4.0 innings for the Pioneers and conceded just two hits, one walk and zero runs with three strikeouts.
Right fielder Cooper Smith (Northern Essex) recorded a team-high two hits to go along with a walk and a run scored during the victory for Elmira, while center fielder Matt Granato (St. Thomas) contributed a hit, a walk and a team-high two runs scored.
The Pioneers will host Geneva on Thursday for a doubleheader at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., while Batavia will play a doubleheader at Jamestown on Wednesday at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.
Saugerties Stallions 2, Albany Dutchmen 1
The Stallions (5-5) recorded their second win over the Dutchmen (5-9) in as many days. Saugerties previously bested Albany on Monday by a score of 5-2.
On Tuesday at Saugerties’ Cantine Veterans Memorial Field, the Stallions trailed 1-0 after seven innings before tying the contest in the bottom of the eighth, then recording a walk-off base hit in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 2-1 victory.
Eli Small (Kentucky) drove in the game-winning run for Saugerties in the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field. Third baseman Samuel Hill scored the run after leading off the inning with a walk.
Saugerties right fielder Ethan Conrad (Marist) and second baseman Carson Clark (Wright State) both recorded two hits during the victory.
Right-handed pitcher Liam Horan (MSMC) entered the game with two outs in the top of the second and he went on to complete 3.1 scoreless innings for the Stallions with three strikeouts. Right-hander Dylan Speakman (South Georgia) relieved Horan and allowed just one hit, zero walks and zero runs with three strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work. Left-hander TJ Lopez (Webber) was credited with the win for Saugerties after tossing a scoreless frame in the top of the ninth with the score tied 1-1.
Right-hander David James (USC Upstate) delivered a great start for the Dutchmen, allowing three hits, zero walks and zero runs with five strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.
The Dutchmen will return to action on Wednesday when they host the Amsterdam Mohawks at 6:35 p.m., while the Stallions will play at Oneonta on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Oneonta Outlaws 3, Glens Falls Dragons 2
Third baseman Bayram Hot (Marist) delivered a clutch two-run single in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Outlaws (6-6) to a 3-2 walk-off win over the Glens Falls Dragons (3-7) at Damaschke Field.
Oneonta starting pitcher Justin Decastro (Long Island) tossed 6.0 scoreless innings for the Outlaws, limiting the visitors to five hits and zero walks with two strikeouts.
Oneonta broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the second, then Glens Falls tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from center fielder Cory Listing (Coker). Glens Falls right fielder Odilio Cespedes (Bryant and Stratton) led off the top of the ninth with a single, then he stole second base and came around to score later in the inning on a passed ball to give the Dragons a 2-1 advantage.
Listing, Cespedes and middle infielder Alex Sandell (Holy Cross) delivered two hits each for Glens Falls during the setback.
No Oneonta player recorded more than one hit during the victory.
Glens Falls starting pitcher Patrick Reilly (Central Connecticut) allowed three hits, zero walks and zero earned runs with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work and ended the night with a no decision. Right-hander Jesse Kuzmich (Saint Rose) relieved Reilly and recorded 2.0 scoreless innings.
Oneonta right-hander Ryan Myles (Wagner), who allowed one run in one inning in relief, was credited with the win after the Outlaws walked it off the in the bottom of the ninth.
The Outlaws will host Saugerties on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch, while Glens Falls will host Mohawk Valley on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
Auburn DoubleDays 16, Geneva Red Wings 0
The DoubelDays (7-6) tallied seven runs in the top of the eighth inning on Tuesday at Geneva to defeat the Red Wings in eight innings via run rule.
Auburn designated hitter Hazel Martinez (Union), catcher Bobby Stang (Georgia Southern) and center fielder Christian Bauman (Brookdale) recorded two RBI and two runs scored each during the victory, while left fielder Christian Melillo (Southwestern) tallied three hits, two walks and a game-high three runs batted in for the Doubledays. Shortstop Harrison Campi (Wofford) contributed three hits and a game-high three runs scored to the Auburn cause.
Auburn right-handed starting pitcher Sam Hough (Bates) compiled seven strikeouts with three hits, one walk and zero runs allowed in 5.0 innings of work, then left-hander Simon Aluko (Charleston Southern) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts.
The DoubleDays will return to action on Wednesday when they play a 7:05 p.m. game at Newark, while the Red Wings will take Wednesday off before traveling to Elmira on Thursday for a 5:00 p.m. game against the Pioneers.
