For the third straight day, there were eight games of PGCBL action, featuring two doubleheaders, one of which had the first no-hitter of the 2022 season!
Niagara Power 10, Newark Pilots 3
The Niagara offense was strong all day, scoring in five different innings en route to the victory. Ben Sinins (Bucknell) had a two-run double in the third inning to put the Power up 3-0 as part of a 2-for-2, two RBI afternoon and Nick Dicarlo (Iona) had an RBI triple as part of a four-run sixth inning. On the mound, Heath Cockburn (Clark) threw five innings of one-run ball.
Oneonta Outlaws 13, Boonville Baseball Club 0 (Game 1)
The first game of the doubleheader was all Oneonta, with eight different players getting a hit, highlighted by a 4-for-5 performance from Mario Disso (Pitt-Johnstown), who also scored twice. Connor Cooney (Holy Cross) went 2-for-3 in the win as well. The Outlaws scored 11 of their 13 runs in the fifth and sixth innings of the game.
Boonville Baseball Club 10, Oneonta Outlaws 9 (Game 2)
Boonville salvaged a doubleheader split behind a 2-for-3 performance from Scott Seeker (Western Oklahoma State), who drove in a run and scored twice as well. Zack Crampton (Haverford) also doubled in the win, as did Connor Lynch. Bryce Collis (St. John Fisher) scored twice. Dylan Broderick (Pitt-Johnstown) hit two home runs for Oneonta as part of a five-RBI game, going 2-for-4.
Geneva Red Wings 4, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 0
Nick Serce’s (Alfred State) solo home run in the first inning set the tone for Geneva as part of a 3-for-4 night and scored three runs. Serce also got the last three outs on the mound The Red Wings added a run in the sixth and two more in the eighth, both coming on a ball off the bat of Ozzie Fleischer (Tufts). Earlier on the hill, Augie Walters (Holy Cross) threw six innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and striking out five.
Amsterdam Mohawks 12, Watertown Rapids 7 (Game 1)
After Watertown took a 2-0 lead in the first two innings, Amsterdam responded in a big way by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth. The Mohawks went yard three times in that time, with Hunter Thomas (Rend Lake CC) hitting two of them as part of a 2-for-3, six-RBI night, while Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) hitting the other. Ellis Schwartz (Emory), Tyree Bradley (Bloomfield) and Brett Myers (Oswego State) all homered for Watertown.
Amsterdam Mohawks 12, Watertown Rapids 0 (Game 2)
The Mohawks threw the PGCBL’s first no-hitter of the 2022 season in a five-inning win. Cole Cheatham (Mississippi State) threw the first four innings and struck out six, while Von Baker (Cornell) finished it off by getting the last three outs and struck out two. The Mohawks scored seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Ian Perutz (Maryland). Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State) also homered in the win.
Albany Dutchmen 11, Glens Falls Dragons 1
The Dutchmen scored in each of the first six innings of the game to pick up the victory. Chance Checca (Herkimer) hit a two-run double in the first inning as part of a 2-for-2, five-RBI night, while Tyler Young (Lehigh) went 2-for-5 and Max Gebauer (Franklin Pierce) went 2-for-4. Andrew Cubberly (Quinnipiac) tossed four shutout innings, striking out eight.
Saugerties Stallions 8, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 2
The Stallions won their sixth straight game by scoring seven runs in the first four innings, with Easton Bertrand (Minnesota) and David Shackelford (Arizona) both hitting RBI triples. Brett Heckert (Pittsburgh) added a sacrifice fly in the second inning as well as a two-run single in the fourth. Garrison Berkley (TCU) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Coulson Buchanan (Wofford) tossed five innings of two-run ball.
