Batavia Muckdogs 3, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 2

The Batavia Muckdogs (4-3) earned a one-run win over the Jamestown Tarp Skunks (5-3-1) on Thursday evening at Jamestown’s Diethrick Park.  Batavia’s starting pitcher Rijnaldo Euson (Georgia Southwestern State) earned the win on the mound after limiting the Tarp Skunks to five hits, one run and three walks with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work.  Right-hander Trey Bacon (Santa Fe), in his third appearance this season, recorded his league-leading third save of the campaign after tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth to secure the win.

Third baseman Giuseppe Arcuri (Saint Leo) and second baseman Lucas Lopez (St. Thomas) provided two hits each for the Muckdogs, while right fielder Josh Leadem (Rochester), center fielder Anthony Calabro (West Georgia) and first baseman Sean Ladd (Dallas College Mountain View) each delivered an RBI.

Center fielder Zack Kent (Wagner) tallied two hits and an RBI for Jamestown during the setback.

The Muckdogs will return to action on Friday when they host the Auburn DoubleDays for a game at 5:00 p.m., while the Tarp Skunks will host Elmira on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 8, Amsterdam Mohawks 2

With the help of a five-run inning in the bottom of the second, the DiamondDawgs (7-2) handed the Mohawks (9-1) their first loss of the 2023 campaign. With the win, the DiamondDawgs extended their winning streak to six games.

In 2022, it was the DiamondDawgs who ended the Mohawks’ perfect 8-0 start to the season.

On Thursday at Mohawk Valley’s Veterans Memorial Park, the DiamondDawgs got great outings from right-handed starting pitcher Kevin Kell (Fairfield) and lefty relief pitcher Aidan Colagrande (Fairfield). Kell went 5.1 innings while limiting the defending champs to four hits, zero walks and one run with five strikeouts to improve his record to 2-0 this season. Colagrande entered the game with one out and a runner on second in the top of the sixth, and he went on to finish the game with only one hit, one walk and zero earned runs allowed with six strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Colagrande did not allow a run during the final three frames to secure the victory.

Mohawk Valley left fielder and leadoff hitter Owen Pincince (New Haven) recorded two hits, two runs scored and an RBI during the victory, while second baseman Corey Adams (William and Mary) registered two hits and two runs batted in. Right fielder Mark Darakjy (St. Bonaventure) also contributed two RBI to the Mohawk Valley cause to go along with a hit and a run scored.

Amsterdam second baseman Gage Miller (Bishop State) recorded an RBI base hit and a run scored during the sixth inning.

The DiamondDawgs, currently in second place behind Amsterdam in the East Division Standings, will host Oneonta on Friday at 6:30 p.m., while the Mohawks will return home for a 6:45 p.m. matchup against Albany on Friday.

Oneonta Outlaws 6, Boonville Lumberjacks 2

The Outlaws (4-5) tallied four runs in the top of the first to claim a 6-2 win over the Lumberjacks (3-7) at Boonville’s Robert Smith Sports Complex. It is the second consecutive road win for the Outlaws, who earned a 10-4 win at Glens Falls on Sunday.

Oneonta center fielder Dakota Britt (Herkimer) recorded a game-high three hits during the victory, while third baseman Gavin McAlonie (Molloy) provided a game-high three RBI, including a two-run double in the top of the fifth that made it 6-1 in favor of the visitors. Designated hitter Christopher Baillargeon (Holy Cross) added two hits, a walk and two runs scored for the Outlaws.

Oneonta right-handed starting pitcher Joseph Trombley (Sacred Heart) allowed five hits, one run and three walks with seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work to earn his first win of the campaign. Right-hander Ryan Myles (Wagner) relieved Trombley and did not allow a hit, a walk or an earned run in 2.0 innings, then righty RJ Latkowski (Long Island) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and zero walks allowed to close out the game.

Shortstop Samuel Fleming (Stillman) recorded a team-high two hits for the Lumberjacks, including an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Boonville starting right-handed pitcher Jacob Phillips (Guilford) tallied eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work, but he suffered his first loss of the campaign, dropping his record to 2-1 with one save.

The Outlaws will next travel to Mohawk Valley on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. matchup against the DiamondDawgs, while the Lumberjacks will take Friday off before hosting the DiamondDawgs for a 6:45 p.m. matchup in Boonville on Saturday.

Auburn DoubleDays 7, Newark Pilots 2

The DoubleDays (4-3) scored two runs in each of the first three innings on Thursday to set themselves up for a 7-2 win on the road against the Pilots (1-8).

Auburn shortstop Harrison Campi (Wofford) recorded a hit, a run scored and a game-high two RBI, while designated hitter Hazel Martinez and third baseman Michael Whooley (Villanova) registered two hits each. Whooley also scored a game-high two runs.

Right-handed pitcher Sam Hough (Bates) started on the mound for Auburn and allowed zero hits, zero runs and two walks with three strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work, then left-hander Simon Aluko (Charleston Southern) recorded five strikeouts in 3.0 innings of relief before righty James Morr (St. Lawrence) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings to finish the game for the DoubleDays.

Newark right fielder and leadoff hitter Frank Vanzillotta (SUNY Brockport) tallied a hit, a run and two walks during the setback.

The DoubleDays will next travel to Batavia on Friday for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against the Muckdogs, while the Pilots will return to action on Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. contest at Elmira.

Albany Dutchmen 9, Saugerties Stallions 8

The Dutchmen (5-5) scored a combined eight runs during the final three innings to earn a dramatic comeback victory on the road against the Stallions (3-4).

The Stallions broke the 0-0 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third, then they added four more in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead. The Dutchmen mounted their comeback effort with three runs in the seventh, three more in the eighth, and two in the top of the ninth to take the lead for good.

Albany center fielder Vince Venditti (Saint Rose) drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI double with two outs in the top of the ninth. Venditti finished the contest with two hits, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Third baseman Brody Keneston (Le Moyne) recorded two hits, a run scored, and a game-high two runs batted in for the Dutchmen.

Right-hander Greg Mays (SUNY Cortland) was credited with the win for Albany after tossing a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth, then left-hander Jackson Smith (Kankakee) earned the save after stranding two runners on base during a scoreless bottom of the ninth.

Saugerties center fielder Evan Dieter (St. Bonaventure) recorded a game-high three hits for the Stallions to go along with two runs scored and an RBI. Starting pitcher Ga’von Wray (Georgia Southern) conceded zero hits, zero runs and one walk with three strikeouts through the first 3.0 innings for the Stallions.

The Dutchmen will return to action on Friday when they play a 6:45 p.m. game at Amsterdam, while the Stallions will host Glens Falls on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

Elmira Pioneers 5, Geneva Red Wings 1

The Pioneers (6-3) scored two runs in the top of the first, and two more in the top of the second to set themselves up for a 5-1 victory over the Geneva Red Wings (2-5) at Geneva’s McDonough Park.

Elmira right-handed starting pitcher Connor Lutes was excellent on Thursday for the Pioneers, striking out 10 hitters with three hits, two walks and zero runs allowed in 7.0 innings of work. Lutes currently holds a 0.54 ERA through three starts this season (16.2 innings pitched).

Right-hander Griffin Yastremski (Keystone) pitched the final 2.0 innings for Elmira to close out the win.

Elmira extra hitter Matt Granato (St. Thomas) tallied a game-high three hits and a game-high two RBI during the victory.

Geneva second baseman Brandon Gelpi (Baldwin Wallace) recorded a team-high two hits and drove in the Red Wings’ lone run.

Right-handed Drew Munn (Central Connecticut State) pitched the final 2.0 innings for Geneva, conceding zero runs, zero hits and zero walks with five strikeouts.

The Pioneers will play at Jamestown at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Red Wings will host Niagara on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
