Five games of PGCBL action on Wednesday night, with two different pitching staffs coming ever so close to throwing no-hitters. Read all about it!
Albany Dutchmen 9, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 0
The Dutchmen pitching staff came within four outs of a no-hitter, started with five innings of no-hit ball from JT Larson (North Florida) while striking out six and two no-hit innings from Aidan O’Connor (St. Thomas Aquinas) before Mohawk Valley broke it up in the eighth. On offense, Albany was led by Tyler Young (Lehigh) who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Utica Blue Sox 8, Geneva Red Wings 3
Utica scored three runs in the fifth inning and another three in the sixth in order to put the game away and pick up the victory. In the sixth inning, Ryan Enos (Oswego State) had a two-run double as part of a 3-for-4, three-RBI, two-run night, while Brady Short (Stony Brook) had an RBI single in the same frame. Geneva’s Andrew McDermott (Quinnipiac) went 2-for-3 in the loss.
Jamestown Tarp Skunks 4, Elmira Pioneers 3
Jamestown did not allow an Elmira hit until the ninth inning, an effort started by Eddie Galatas (North Georgia), who threw five no-hit innings, followed by two more no-hit frames from Nate Johnson (Jamestown CC). Elmira rallied in the ninth inning, but left the game-tying run at third base.
Oneonta Outlaws 10, Glens Falls Dragons 9
The Outlaws trailed 9-6 entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but completed the rally to win the game, capped off on a walk-off sacrifice fly off the bat of Jelani Hamer (St. Rose). It was back-and-forth the whole way, with Oneonta scoring nine of their 10 runs in the fifth inning or later after Glens Falls had grabbed an early 4-0 lead. Oneonta’s Chris Baillargeon (Holy Cross) drove in three runs in the victory.
Batavia Muckdogs 8, Newark Pilots 5
Batavia led 4-2 heading into the eighth inning and scored four in that frame to put them up big. They needed it, as Newark answered with three in the bottom half. In that eighth inning, Bryan Belo (Lake Land) had a two-run single in his only at-bat of the night. Batavia scored four runs in the first two innings, including on an RBI groundout from Mike DeStefano (Canisius), who went 2-for-5. Batavia starter Joshua Milleville (Fairleigh Dickinson) tossed five innings of two-run ball.
