Five games were completed on Tuesday, June 13. We had two matchups in the East Division, and two in the West, along with one non-league contest.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks 2, Niagara Power 2

The Tarp Skunks (5-1-1) and the Power (4-2-1), fighting for position atop the West Division Standings, battled into extra innings on Tuesday, but the game was called after 10 innings, resulting in a 2-2 tie. The Tarp Skunks had tied the game by scoring a run in the top of the ninth, sending the contest to extras.

The Tarp Skunks broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the third on an RBI single from shortstop Grady Mee (Western Michigan), which drove in catcher Evan Fragela (Pittsburgh-Bradford), who led off the inning with a single to right field.

Reigning West Division Player of the Week Jackson Strong (Canisius) helped the Power respond in the next inning. Strong led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple, then he scored on a wild pitch during the next at bat to tie the game at 1-1.

The Power then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth following an RBI groundout from second baseman Alex Dzimian (D’Youville).

Right-hander Billy Morris (D’Youville) started on the mound for Niagara and allowed just four hits, one run and one walk with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work during his second start of the 2023 campaign. Right-hander Andrew Damiani (Niagara County) relieved Morris and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings for the Power.

Reigning West Division Pitcher of the Week Patrick DeMarco (Ohio) started on the mound for Jamestown and completed 5.2 innings of work while limiting the home team to four hits, one walk and one earned run with one strikeout.

Jamestown Left-hander Evan Chaffee (Alabama) had a strong outing in relief, pitching the final 4.1 innings for the Tarp Skunks while allowing just three hits, one walk and zero runs with five strikeouts.

Strong tallied a game-high three hits for the Power to go along with a run scored.

Mee recorded a team-high two hits, one RBI and a run scored.

The Tarp Skunks and the Power will play again on Wednesday at Jamestown’s Diethrick Park at 6:30 p.m.

Amsterdam Mohawks 11, Glens Falls Dragons 1

The Mohawks (9-0) used a big five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth to pull away from the Dragons (2-4) and eventually win via run rule after eight innings at Shuttleworth Park. Amsterdam extra hitter Luke Zeisloft (Maryland) delivered a game-ending solo home run in the bottom of the eighth.

With a 9-0 record so far this season, the Mohawks are off to their best start in organization history, surpassing the 2022 squad’s eight consecutive wins to start the season.

Catcher Luke Longo (NJIT) recorded a game-high five runs batted in for the Mohawks, including a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fifth that extended his team’s lead to 9-1. The home run was Longo’s second of the season.

Amsterdam third baseman Cam Gurney (Utah) tallied a game-high three hits during the victory to go along with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Amsterdam pitching staff was dominant on Tuesday, limiting the visitors to just one hit, one run and five walks with 15 strikeouts during the eight innings.

Amsterdam starting pitcher Brandon Peterson (NJIT) compiled 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings while limiting the Dragons to zero hits, zero earned runs and three walks.

Right-hander Ryan Taffe (Fairfield) relieved Peterson and allowed one hit, zero runs and one walk with four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work, then righty Colin Maloney (Rhode Island) pitched a scoreless top of the eighth with one strikeout.

For the Dragons, center fielder Aidan Heffner (Siena) recorded the team’s lone hit, left fielder Michael Pratte (Maine) scored the lone run, and shortstop Nick Marola (Coker) registered an RBI.

The Mohawks will return to action on Wednesday at Boonville at 5:00 p.m., while the Dragons will host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

Utica Blue Sox 14, Boonville Lumberjacks 7

Utica left fielder Pablo Santos (Rutgers) recorded three hits, two runs scored, and five runs batted in on Tuesday at Utica’s Donovan Stadium to help lead the Blue Sox (4-5) to a 14-7 win over the visiting Boonville Lumberjacks (3-6) in East Division action. The Blue Sox scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh (with the help of a three-run double from Santos), and five in the eighth to pull away from the Lumberjacks and earn their second consecutive victory, and their first home win of 2023.

Center fielder Easton Brenner (Lafayette) contributed three hits, three runs scored and a walk to the Utica cause, while extra hitter Josh Skowronski (Kentucky) and second baseman Kyuss Gargett (Kentucky) added two hits and two runs scored each.

Utica right-hander Daly Skees (Hillsdale) earned the win on the mound after limiting the visitors to two hits, zero runs and two walks with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.

Boonville extra hitter Eli Snelson (Union) recorded a team-high three hits and an RBI during the setback, while first baseman Dylan Mercedes (Mansfield) and catcher Zach Rogacki (Alvernia) scored two runs each.

Utica will travel to Albany on Wednesday for a 6:35 p.m. matchup against the Dutchmen, while the Lumberjacks will return home to host the undefeated Amsterdam Mohawks on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.

Elmira Pioneers 5, Newark Pilots 0

Strong outings from pitchers Bradyn Coletta (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Devin Murray (Hillsdale) led the Pioneers (5-3) to a 5-0 win over the Newark Pilots (1-7) at Newark’s Colburn Park on Tuesday in West Division action.

Coletta started on the mound and completed 6.0 innings of work while conceding five hits, two walks and zero runs with four strikeouts. Murray relieved Coletta to begin the bottom of the seventh and threw three perfect innings with six strikeouts to close out the victory for Elmira.

Left fielder Matt Granato (St. Thomas) recorded a team-high two hits and a game-high two runs scored for the Pioneers, while second baseman Aidan Blake (UMass Boston) contributed a two-run double in the top of the fifth to finish the contest with a game-high two runs batted in.

Granato led off the top of the first with a base hit, then crossed the plate later in the inning on a ground ball to the right side from shortstop Blaze Fadio (Lafayette). The Pios extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth with the help of an RBI double from first baseman Matt Frazetta (Seton Hill).

Newark shortstop Michael Flaherty (Grinnell) and designated hitter Dom Camera (Hofstra) provided two hits each during the setback.

The Pioneers will return home on Wednesday to face the Geneva Red Wings at Dunn Field at 6:35 p.m., while the Pilots will take Wednesday off before hosting the Auburn DoubleDays on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
