Saugerties Stallions 13, Albany Dutchmen 3

The Stallions (3-3) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh to end the game via run rule and claim their second win in as many days over the Albany Dutchmen (4-5).

Saugerties right fielder Andrew Amato (Delaware) recorded two hits, one walk, two runs and three RBI during the win, including a two-run home run that capped the Stallions’ seven-run inning and made it a 10-run game. Left fielder Ethan Conrad (Marist) provided two hits, a run and two RBI for the Stallions, while center fielder Eli Small (Kentucky) added two hits, an RBI, a stolen base and a game-high three runs scored.

Left-handed pitcher Andrew Speranza (St. Thomas Aquinas) was credited with the victory for Saugerties. Speranza entered the game to begin the bottom of the third and completed 2.0 innings of work while allowing zero hits, zero runs and two walks with two strikeouts in his first appearance of the campaign. Right-hander Seth Lovell (Webber) relieved Speranza prior to the bottom of the fifth and delivered 2.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Albany broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from first baseman Korson Hastings (Trinity) and starting pitcher Ryan McCarroll (Wheaton) held the Stallions scoreless through the first four innings. After allowing a single with one out and nobody on base in the top of the fifth, McCaroll was pulled from the game. He finished his outing with four hits, zero walks and one run allowed with eight strikeouts.

After McCarroll left the game, the Stallions broke through for four runs in the fifth. Amato and Evan Wainman (Polk State) drew back-to-back bases loaded walks, then Conrad delivered a two-run double to left field to make it 4-1 in favor of the Stallions.

Ty Gallagher (Hobart) recorded a pinch-hit RBI single in the top of the sixth as the Stallions extended their lead to 6-1.

The Stallions’ seven-run inning in the top of the seventh gave them a 13-1 lead.

The Dutchmen trimmed their deficit to 13-3 in the bottom of the seventh with the help of an RBI single from center fielder Anthony Paskell (Rider) and a bases loaded hit by pitch from left fielder Josh Foglia (HVCC), but Saugerties reliever Jacob Grossman (Pepperdine) recorded a flyout to get out of the inning, maintain the ten-run lead and end the game via run rule in the seventh.

The Stallions will take Tuesday and Wednesday off before returning home on Thursday for another matchup against Albany.

Prior to Thursday’s matchup in Saugerties, the Dutchmen will host the Utica Blue Sox on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
