For the first time this season, all 16 PGCBL teams were in action on the same day. Now, after Friday, all 16 teams have at least one win. Read about how Friday’s action went!

Auburn Doubledays 7, Niagara Power 2

Auburn earned its second straight victory by scoring five runs in the fifth inning en route to the win. With Niagara up 1-0, Blake Murray (Montana State) tied the game with an RBI single, then Connor Brala (Tufts) gave the Doubledays the lead with a two-run single, then the next batter in Ryan Cesarini (St. Joseph’s) tripled in two more to cap off the big inning. Gene McGough (Radford) fired five one-run innings, giving up two hits and striking out six.

Geneva Red Wings 9, Watertown Rapids 8 (10 innings)

Down 8-6 in the seventh inning, Watertown scored a run in the seventh and tied the game in the eighth, sending the game into extras, where Mike Gorham (North Lake CC) scored in the top of the tenth to give Geneva the lead for good. Max Hitman (St. Joseph’s) and Shane Dux (Hamilton) each drove in three runs in the victory, all of Dux’s coming on a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning.

Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 7, Saugerties Stallions 5

It was a comeback effort for Mohawk Valley, scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning after coming into the frame trailing 5-3. After the DiamondDawgs brought it to within one, Alfredo Delgado (Manhattan) gave them the lead with a two-run double and then an RBI single from Garrett Musey (Goldey-Beacom) gave the DiamondDawgs an important insurance run. Jake Skrine (Indiana) went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Saugerties.

Amsterdam Mohawks 2, Oneonta Outlaws 1

The Mohawks earned their sixth straight win to start the season through their stellar pitching, which saw Cade Citelli (Texas-Arlington) toss five shutout innings, then the bullpen of Carson Cotugno (Wake Forest), Santhosh Gottam (Brown) and Luis Misla (Hudson Valley CC) throw four innings of one-run, four-hit ball. Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) had the only RBI hit for Amsterdam, a single in the fifth. 6-0 is the best start in Amsterdam franchise history.

Boonville Baseball Club 12, Utica Blue Sox 6

Boonville earned their first win of the season largely in part due to an eight-run fifth inning. That frame was highlighted by RBI singles from Dan Tauken (Rockland CC), Tim McHugh (St. John’s) and Mike Flyzik (St. Lawrence) as well as a two-run double from Efrain Correa Jr. (Mount St. Mary’s). Tauken went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Correa Jr. went 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run.

Albany Dutchmen 15, Glens Falls Dragons 4

The Dutchmen scored five runs in two different innings to pick up the blowout victory. In the fifth inning, a ball off the bat of Anthony Raimo Jr. (Rhode Island) scored three runs and in the eighth inning Chance Checca (Herkimer CC) had a two-run triple as part of a 2-for-5 night, scoring three runs himself and driving in two more. The Albany pitching trio of Mike Maratea (Ramapo), Ryan McCarroll (Wheaton) and Luke Pusz (Herkimer CC) allowed just five Glens Falls hits.

Elmira Pioneers 7, Newark Pilots 4

The 6-8 hitters for Elmira were they key contributors all night long, accounting for seven of the Pioneers’ nine hits and scored five runs. Cooper Smith (Seton Hill) went 2-for-4, Jonny Wall (Roanoke) went 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice, while Chris Bear (Northern Essex CC) went 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice as well. Bradyn Coletta (Niagara County CC) tossed six innings of one-run, four-hit ball in the win.

Batavia Muckdogs 7, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 2

It was a big night for Tyler Cannoe (Salve Regina) who went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, who picked up an RBI in the first inning and had matching two-run singles in the sixth and seventh innings to propel the Muckdogs to their sixth win in seven games this season.
