Just two PGCBL contests were completed on Sunday. The following games were postponed: A doubleheader between the Batavia Muckdogs and Elmira Pioneers; a single contest between the Auburn Doubledays and Newark Pilots; and a single game between the Amsterdam Mohawks and Glens Falls Dragons.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks 6, Geneva Red Wings 2

Five runs in the final two innings by the Jamestown (14-9) bats and a two-hit masterpiece by their pitching staff lifted the Tarp Skunks to a 6-2 victory over the visiting Geneva Red Wings (6-18). Paired with the postponement of the Elmira doubleheader, the win also lifted Jamestown into a tie for second place in the West Division with the Pioneers.

Jamestown starter Will Saxenmeyer (Wagner) threw four no-hit innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen. The Tarp Skunks dynamic bullpen duo of Tony DeLawrence (Barton) and Andrew Ayers (St. Bonaventure) would combine to throw the final five innings, allowing just the two hits and two runs, and after a two-run bottom of the seventh for Jamestown that gave them the lead for good, Ayers would pick up his third win of the summer.

With the game tied at one at the stretch, Alex Ahlstrom (Finger Lakes CC) and Grady Mee (Western Michigan) would lead off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back walks before an error and a single off the bat of Zack Kent (Wagner) would bring them both in.

Jamestown would add three more for good measure in the bottom of the eighth. After singles from Colin Houck (East Stroudsburg) and Henry Juan (Williams), an RBI single from Kieran Gagnon (Gannon) and a two-RBI single from Tommy Goggins (Princeton) would make it 6-1.

Ethan Swidler (Lafayette) would hit his third home run of the summer in the top of the ninth to make it 6-2, but that was all Geneva could generate. Swidler’s homer pushed him into a tie for the third-most home runs in the league.

Boonville Lumberjacks 12, Watertown Rapids 2

An offensive onslaught from the Boonville Lumberjacks (8-20) saw them put up a season-tying high 12 runs against the Watertown Rapids (8-21) in their 12-2 seven inning run rule victory on Sunday. The 12 runs ties the number the Lumberjacks also scored against the Rapids back on June 18th.

The offensive production for Boonville came everywhere 1-9, as all nine reached base, seven of the nine scored at least one run, and six of the nine picked up at least one hit. It was highlighted by Alex Angulo’s (Gettysburg) 3-for-4 day, which included a pair of solo home runs and three runs total, as well as Marcus Smith’s (Cincinnati) 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs, and four runs batted in. Darnell Guerrero (Alliance) also went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Boonville starter Albert Bobadilla (Bloomfield) went the distance, allowing seven hits, two runs (one earned), and one walk to go with his season-high eight strikeouts.

Watertown’s offense was led by Virginia Tech commit David McCann, who went 3-for-3 with an RBI double.
