Nine games went underway on an exciting league slate, including a doubleheader in Saugerties. Many crooked numbers went up, including a game-winning run by Jamestown.
Boonville Baseball Club 5, Saugerties Stallions 9 (Game 1)
Saugerties gained their advantage early, outscoring Boonville 5-4 in the first two frames. RBI hits by Garrett Michel (Virginia Tech) and Jake Skrine (Indiana) put the game away. Michel starred for the Stallions, going two for two with two RBIs and a home run. Opposing first baseman, Dan Tauken added two RBIs for Boonville.
Boonville Baseball Club 6, Saugerties Stallions 5 (Game 2)
Leading in the fourth inning, Boonville’s Tim McHugh hit a 2-run single to advance the lead. They withstood RBI hits from Brett Heckert (Pittsburgh), Michel, and Easton Bertrand (Minnesota) to take a one-run victory and a split of the doubleheader. Derek Sotolongo received the win, allowing three earned runs and striking out five.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 8, Albany Dutchmen 2
The game went in Mohawk Valley’s favor during a seven-run second inning highlighted by a Pete Durocher (Manhattan) 3-run home run. Ethan Miller (Shippensburg) started and went into the fifth inning, helping the DiamondDawgs hold the Dutchmen to four hits. Mike DiMartino (UAlbany) received the loss, allowing all seven runs in the second inning.
Glens Falls Dragons 4, Amsterdam Mohawks 7
A two-run second inning gave Amsterdam command early on. In the sixth and seventh inning, Phoenix Bowman (Iona), Cory Listing (Coker), and Mario Cubello (St. John-Fisher) drove in runs, providing a one-run edge to Glens Falls. Gage Miller (Bishop State CC) hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to put Amsterdam ahead.
Watertown Rapids 9, Utica Blue Sox 2
Watertown took advantage of 23 baserunners to get the win in this game. Wyatt Parliament (Rutgers) received the win, pitching five shutout innings and only allowing three hits. Edwin Tavarez (Felician) starred for the other side, giving Utica an RBI and two hits.
Oneonta Outlaws 15, Elmira Pioneers 4
Oneonta took advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity in the third to get two runs and the lead. The Outlaws continued to add on after that, outhitting the Pioneers by 11 and walking 5 more times. Christian Coombes received the win, striking out 11 batters in 6 innings.
Niagara Power 5, Newark Pilots 10
Leading by one in the fourth inning, Newark uncorked six runs with RBI hits from Thai Morgan (Emerson), Michael Doyle (NJIT), and Alex Duffy (Elon). Duffy led Newark with four RBIs while Billy Morris (DYouville) went two for five for Niagara. Sebastian Pike (Union) received the win, relieving Justin Santos (Redlands CC) after four innings and one hit.
Jamestown Tarp Skunks 14, Auburn DoubleDays 7
Jamestown trailed by one entering the sixth inning. It was here the Tarp Skunks rallied to score 10 runs, including 2-RBI doubles by Johnny Kampes (Goldy-Beacum) and Will Dorrell (Flo-Dar Tech CC). Tucker Fenton (St Bonaventure) received the win, pitching more than six innings of relief and striking out eight.
Geneva Red Wings 3, Batavia Muckdogs 12
The Muckdogs scored in six consecutive innings to get the win. Josh Leadem (Rochester) and Gavin Schrader (Niagara) had multiple RBIs. Tyler Prospero (Niagara) received the win allowing three earned runs in five innings.
