It was an action packed night around the PGCBL to get us ready for the weekend! Here’s how Thursday night’s games went down:

Batavia Muckdogs 10, Oneonta Outlaws 3 (Game One)

Batavia bats came into Thursday night’s doubleheader on fire, as the Muckdogs went into Damaschke Field and put up 14 hits and scored multiple runs in four different innings in the first seven inning contest of the evening. The two through five hitters in the visitors lineup put up a combined 9-for-16 with five runs, five runs batted in, and two doubles, led by Josh Leadem (Rochester) who went three-for-four with two runs and a double, and Kyle Corso (Columbia), who put up a 2-for-4 line with a run, two doubles, and three RBIs. Nolan Sparks (Rochester) threw five and third scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and four walks while striking out seven to go to 4-0 with a league-leading 0.32 ERA.

Batavia Muckdogs 1, Oneonta Outlaws 6 (Game Two)

Oneonta quickly turned things around and salvaged the split in game two behind the dominant start of Freddie Callo (Bryant). Callo threw six innings, allowing just two hits, one run (unearned), and one walk, while striking out eight en route to his first victory of the summer. Ryan Martinez (San Francisco) gave Oneonta the lead with a two-RBI double in the third, while singles from Evan Keegan (Castleton) and Dylan Perry (Potomac State) and a double from Carter Dorighi (Lafayette) pushed the Outlaws to a four-run sixth and provide the final score. Dorighi would lead the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with his RBI double and two runs scored.

Boonville Baseball Club 3, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 12

Mohawk Valley put up eight of their 12 runs on the night in the third and eighth inning, using timely hitting to quickly make a one-run lead a six-run lead after three innings, and putting up three more in the home half of the eighth to finish off Boonville. Six different DiamondDawgs combined for the team’s 10 runs batted in, led by two apiece from Pete Durocher (Manhattan), Orlando Pena (Coastal Carolina), Jimmy Sullivan (UMass-Lowell), and Richie Sica (Rider). Durocher went 3-for-4 on the night with his two RBIs, two runs, walk and two stolen bases. Troy Butler (Binghamton) picked up the win, throwing five innings while allowing four hits, two runs, one walk, and struck out eight.

Saugerties Stallions 0, Amsterdam Mohawks 5

Amsterdam matched Saugerties’ five hits with their five runs Thursday night, putting up two in the third and sixth and one in the eighth to pick up their sixth straight win. Ian Perutz (Maryland) hit his second home run of the summer to account for the Mohawks two runs in the third, while RBI singles from Zach Gardiner (Marshall), Cameron Love (Rutgers), and Cade Bush (Florida State) put the dagger in the Stallions in the later innings. Cade Citelli (Texas-Arlington), Luis Misla (HVCC), Arlon Butts (Rend Lake CC), and Santhosh Gottam (Brown) were all dominant for the Mohawks from the mound, combining to allow just the five hits and four walks while striking out 15 on the night.

Utica Blue Sox 5, Glens Falls Dragons 6 (10 innings)

The Dragons played spoiler to one of the league’s top teams again Thursday night and walked off on the Blue Sox. Ryan Enos (ETSU) hit an RBI single in the first to quickly give the visitors the lead, before singles from Quentin Bowman (Saint Rose) and Joe Colucci (Emerson) and a Blue Sox error swung the game in favor of the hosts in the fourth. Glens Falls held a 5-2 lead headed to the ninth, before singles from Clark Burroughs (Limestone) and Brady Short (CCSU) tied the game. After five of the next six outs were strikeouts, Glens Falls quickly loaded the bases to begin the bottom of the tenth, and a wild pitch allowed Mario Cubello (SJFC) to score and give the Dragons the win.

Auburn Doubledays 7, Elmira Pioneers 6

The West division matchup at Dunn Field turned out to be the game of the night, as the two teams went blow for blow for all nine innings. Auburn took a lead three separate times in  the game, as Elmira fought back and tied the game each time, making it 5-5 heading to the ninth. An RBI single from J.C. Preacher (Georgia Southern) and sacrifice fly from Assaf Lowengart (Mansfield) gave Auburn their fourth lead, but, as expected, Elmira fought back. Two out hits from Frank Wayman (UMass-Lowell) and Bobby Marsh (Penn State) put runners on second and third, and after a wild pitch made it a one-run game with the tying run on 90 feet away, William Ray (Wake Forest) struck out Aiden Blake (UMass-Boston) to end the thriller.

Newark Pilots 10, Geneva Red Wings 1

Newark had something to say for the best team offensive performance on the night, as the Pilots totaled 16 hits and put up runs in the first six and seven of the nine innings Thursday. The top four hitters also wanted to match Batavia’s two through five hitters game one output, as the top of the Pilots order went a combined 9-for-15, with two walks, four runs, and seven runs batted in. Aaron Whitley (Rochester) went 4-for-4 with two runs, two runs batted in, and two stolen bases, and continues to sit atop the league with a .416 average. Hazel Martinez (Cayuga CC) had the lone extra base hit (a double) and three RBIs, while Fernando Espinal (Cayuga CC) also brought in a pair of runs.
