The Mohawk Valley pitching staff limited the Rapids (8-15) to one run on Monday at Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds Stadium to lead the DiamondDawgs (16-9) to a 7-1 victory in East Division action.

The DiamondDawgs are two games ahead of the Saugerties Stallions for second place in the East Division Standings with a 0.640 winning percentage.

The DiamondDawgs, looking for their eighth road victory of the season, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with the help of a sacrifice fly from third baseman Sam Miller (Columbia), and RBI singles from shortstop Justin Hackett (Bryant) and first baseman Sebastian Mueller (Quinnipiac). Mueller recorded his second RBI of the contest with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, his second long ball of the season, then Hackett drove in catcher Brian Heckelman (Towson) with a double in the top of the sixth to make it 7-0 in favor of the DiamondDawgs.

Mueller finished the game with a team-high three hits to go along with two runs batted in and a run scored. Mohawk Valley center fielder Jaden Ross (South Florida) also tallied three hits during the victory, while Heckelman finished the contest with a game-high two runs with a double and a walk.

The Rapids scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth when first baseman Quinten Perilli (Elizabethtown) ripped a double to lead off the inning, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then crossed the plate following a ground ball to the right side of the infield from third baseman Pranav Sundar (Cuesta).

Mohawk Valley starting right-handed pitcher Colin Dowlen (Seton Hall) improved his record to 3-0 this summer after allowing four hits, zero walks and zero runs with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work against the Rapids. Left-hander Marco Siracusa (Pace) and Sam Miller (Columbia) both recorded one scoreless inning pitched in relief with a strikeout for the DiamondDawgs.

Catcher David McCann (Virginia Tech) recorded a team-best two hits for Watertown during the setback, and right-handed reliever Aidan Maxwell allowed zero hits, zero walks and zero runs with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings pitched.

The DiamondDawgs and the Rapids both hold a 2-2 record against one another so far this season. They will meet again on July 13 at Mohawk Valley’s Veterans Memorial Park.
