Three East Division contests were completed on Sunday. The following contests were postponed: A doubleheader between Auburn and Niagara, single contests between Batavia and Elmira and Newark and Geneva. Albany and Utica, and Amsterdam and Saugerties had their scheduled doubleheaders shortened to just one game due to the weather.

Albany Dutchmen 2, Utica Blue Sox 1

The Dutchmen and the Blue Sox were scheduled to play a doubleheader on Sunday at Utica’s Donovan Stadium, but after the Dutchmen claimed a 2-1 win in game one (a seven-inning contest), game two was suspended in the third inning due to rain.

The Dutchmen scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh when catcher Tyler Kipp (Fairfield) drove in right fielder Anthony Paskell (Rider) with a ground ball to the left side.

Paskell also scored the first run of the game for Albany in the top of the first on an RBI single from third baseman Austin Francis (NJIT). Paskell reached base safely four times on Sunday with a hit, a hit by pitch, and two walks.

Albany starting pitcher Grant Smeltzer (Fairfield) limited the home team to two hits, two walks and one run with three strikeouts through the first 4.0 innings, then right-hander Brayden Childress (Warner) was credited with the victory after allowing zero hits, two walks and zero runs with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings in relief. Righty Nick Kolze (Heartland) earned the save after tossing a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.

Utica starting pitcher Thomas Roefaro (Oneonta) conceded three hits, five walks and one run with three strikeouts through the first 3.2 innings, then left-hander Bill Rozakis (Siena) allowed three hits, zero walks and one unearned run with one strikeout during the final 3.1 innings.

Amsterdam Mohawks 8, Saugerties Stallions 1

The Mohawks and the Stallions were also scheduled to play a doubleheader at Saugerties’ Cantine Veterans Memorial Field, but game one was called after six innings, and game two was postponed.

The Mohawks claimed an 8-1 win before the weather ended competition for the day. Third baseman Gage Miller (Bishop State) delivered a season-high five runs batted in during the victory, and right-handed starting pitcher Evan Siary (Mississippi State) tossed all 6.0 innings, allowing three hits, zero walks and one run with six strikeouts to improve his record to 4-0 this summer.

The Mohawks’ winning streak now stands at 14 games, and they are eight games ahead of Mohawk Valley for first place in the East Division Standings.

Miller recorded a two-run single in the top of the third, and he drove in three more runs with a hit in the top of the fourth. He also registered two stolen bases during the victory.

First baseman Luke Longo (NJIT) provided two hits and a run scored for the Mohawks, while shortstop Mason Swinney (Alabama) and second baseman Bruer Webster (Utah) both contributed a hit and two runs scored.

Saugerties center fielder Andrew Amato (Delaware) provided the Stallions’ lone run with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Stallions are 7-3 in their last ten games and currently hold the third-best winning percentage in the East Division Standings.

Glens Falls Dragons 3, Oneonta Outlaws 1

The Dragons have now won three of their last four contests after grinding out a 3-1 win at home over the Outlaws on Sunday at East Field.

After Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth, Glens Falls scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth, and the Dragons’ pitching staff held the visitors scoreless for the final four frames to register the victory in East Division action.

The Dragons recorded just three hits and two walks during the nine innings, but they capitalized on three Oneonta errors during their three-run inning.

Left field Michael Pratte (Maine), catcher Noah Joly (Stevenson) and extra hitter Sean Butkowski (Saint Rose) each scored a run for Glens Falls during the win. Nick Marola (Coker) recorded the only extra base hit for the Dragons with a double in the bottom of the second.

Right-handers Dan Shala (Siena) and Patrick Reilly (Central Connecticut) both tossed 1.0 scoreless inning in relief to close out the victory. Reilly earned the save after stranding the leadoff runner on base in the top of the ninth.

Oneonta first baseman Christopher Baillargeon (Holy Cross) recorded a team-best two hits during the setback, including a double in the top of the fifth that allowed DH/pitcher Logan Waldschmidt (State College of Florida) to score following an error.
