Tonight we had six games across the league. Here’s who stepped up in our midweek matchups.
Watertown Rapids 11, Boonville Baseball Club 2
Watertown came firing out of the gates, scoring five runs off the starter in the first inning. Three of the five runs were earned for Boonville’s Jake Dannenberg (Adelphi), who was also charged with five walks in less than an inning pitched. Tim McHugh’s solo home run provided Boonville with action, but they failed to score another run until Dan Tauken hit a home run in the seventh. Meanwhile, the Rapids scored six more runs, two in the penultimate inning. Ryan Peters (Brockport) started for Watertown and received the win after five innings, and one earned run.
Niagara Power 9, Jamestown Tarp Skunks 4
Jamestown took the lead in the second inning after Julian Thompson (Stephen F. Austin) hit an RBI single. It took four innings for the Power to figure out Tarp Skunks’ starter Ryan Rafalski (Mercyhurst). They jumped him for two runs in the fifth inning, one off the bat of Scottie O’Bryan. The Power added another in the sixth and held the lead until the eighth inning. In the eighth, Yogie Hartigan (George Mason) hit an RBI single, and then Pat Bigham (Fredonia State) tied the game with another. The score held until extra innings when the Power outscored the Tarp Skunks 6-1. Niagara starter Heath Cockburn (Freeport) stood out for the power, throwing six innings, allowing one earned run, and striking out four.
Amsterdam Mohawks 7, Albany Dutchmen 5
Cade Bush (Florida State), Caden Rose (Alabama), and Cameron Love (Rutgers) all scored in a first inning where Amsterdam outscored Albany 3-2. Trailing by two in the fifth inning, the Dutchmen tied the game on an RBI single by Ty Gallagher (Hobart) and an error by Love. Amsterdam responded in the sixth when Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State) hit a two-run single. With this road win, Amsterdam’s win streak extends to 11 games. Coker starred for the Mohawks, going four for five with three RBIs. Five of Amsterdam’s runs came with Hunter Sabbers (Marist) on the mound, so he will take the loss, his third of the season.
Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 12, Utica Blue Sox 9
Mohawk Valley jumped on Utica in the first with a three-run home run by Garrett Musey (Goldey-Beacom) and a sacrifice fly by Marshall Awtry (Goldey-Beacom). Utica added one run in the second and then unloaded four runs in the fourth. Now trailing 8-5, the DiamondDawgs scored four in the sixth, including a two-run single by Musey. Musey finished the game two for four with five RBIs. Utica tied the game up, but Orlando Pena’s (Coastal Carolina) game-winning single preceded two more DiamondDawg runs. Eddie Rogers (Herkimer) received the win after three innings of relief.
Saugerties Stallions 9, Glens Falls Dragons 2
Three innings went by before Saugerties broke the tie. The Stallions scored four runs in the fourth, including a two-run single by Colin Mackle (Marist). Glens Falls responded in the sixth inning with a Martin Marintchev (RPI) two-run single but Saugerties scored five more runs in the late innings. Garrison Berkley (TCU) led the Saugerties attack, going one for four with a walk and two RBIs. Bryan Boully (Florida Atlantic) received the win after five shutout innings with seven strikeouts. On the other side, Glens Falls starter Riley Orr (Castleton) lasted four innings, giving up four earned runs.
Batavia Muckdogs 5, Elmira Pioneers 3
Elmira struck first with an Ethan Errera (UMass-Boston) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second. Batavia put together some middle-inning offense, featuring RBI hits by Kyle Corso (Columbia), Josh Leadem (Rochester), and Brian Fry (Toledo). Still, they ultimately left the fifth inning with a tie. The game broke Batavia’s way in the eighth. With two outs, Tyler Cannoe (Salve Regina) got on base with a single, setting up a Daniel Burroway (Alvin CC) two-run home run. Burroway’s two RBIs led the team, while Fry and Corso both went two for four. On the other side, Joe Muzio (Eckerd) hit his first home run of the season during his one-for-four performance. Aidan Cooney (Rochester) received the win after two shutout relief innings.
