For the first time since Saturday, weather permitted a full PGCBL slate, which saw eight games take action across the league Tuesday night.

Game 1: Watertown Rapids 6, Oneonta Outlaws 5… Game 2: Oneonta Outlaws 12, Watertown Rapids 1

The Rapids (9-22) and Outlaws (12-17) split their Tuesday doubleheader at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.

Game One was a back-and-forth contest between the Rapids and the Outlaws that came down to the final out.

Oneonta took the lead in the bottom of the first off a two-RBI triple from Jack Hopko (University of Rhode Island) and RBI groundout from Caden Marsters (Erskine College). Watertown responded with three of their own in the top of the third, as Pranav Sundar (Cuesta College) scored on a Oneonta error before Jax Miller (Walsh University) doubled in Mike Norton (Cayuga CCC) and Terence Moynihan (St. Michael’s).

Hopko would double in Christopher Baillargeon (Holy Cross) to give the Outlaws the lead back in the bottom of the fifth. Watertown would respond again in the top of the sixth, as back-to-back RBI singles from Bryce Phelps (Wagner) and Quinten Perilli (Elizabethtown College) gave them their first lead of the evening.

A delayed double steal with runners on the corners would allow Miller to score and extend the lead to two in the top of the seventh. Oneonta would not go down without a fight however, as a one-out double from Brody Raleigh (Western Carolina) and Dakota Britt (Herkimer CCC) would put runners on the corners. A groundout from Logan Haskell (Binghamton) would score Raleigh to cut the deficit to one with the tying run now on second base, but Watertown starter Ryan Peters (Brockport) would get Baillargeon to fly out to finish off his complete game.

Game Two would be a much different story, as it was all Oneonta from the start. After Watertown was retired 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Oneonta’s first three hitters would quickly walk, single, and walk to load the bases. A passed ball would allow Haskell to score, and Marsters would single into right to score Connor Roche (Wagner) and Britt to make it 3-0.

Christopher Ubner’s (St. Thomas Aquinas) groundout in the bottom of the second would allow Jacob Pipercic (Long Island University) to score to push the lead to four, and after Haskell’s two-RBI double in the fourth, an error would allow to score to make it 7-0.

A Anthony Barone (Oswego) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth pushed it to 8-0 before Gaetan Grandelli (West Chester University) responded with a sacrifice fly of his own to get one back for Watertown.

Oneonta would put Watertown away in the bottom of the sixth, as an RBI single from Roche and bases clearing double from Ethan Duda (Herkimer CCC) would provide the final of 12-1.

The Outlaws pitching staff was dominant in game two. Logan Waldschmidt (State College of Florida) would pick up the win, going four innings, allowing just three hits and one walk to go with four strikeouts in the start. Sean Dertinger (Oswego) and Liam Blair (Plymouth State) would combine to go the final three innings, allowing one hit, one run, and three walks while K’ing three.

Miller would go 3-for-6 with three runs, two runs batted in, a double, a walk, and two stolen bases across the two games for the Rapids. Duda would register a 4-for-7 line with three runs batted in, a double, and two stolen bases, while Britt would go 3-for-5 with two runs, three walks, a double, and a stolen base for the Outlaws in the doubleheader. Hopko added a 2-for-5 line with three runs batted in, two runs, a double, a triple, and two walks on the evening for Oneonta.

Boonville Lumberjacks 6, Glens Falls Dragons 3

Boonville (9-20) used three two-run innings to defeat the visiting Dragons (11-15) at the Robert Smith Sports Complex in Boonville.

Santiago Jimenez (Prince George CC) opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, singling in Matthew Layton (Spartan Methodist College) and Eli Snelson (Union University) to give Boonville the 2-0 lead.

The Lumberjacks would add two in the fifth, taking advantage of a Glens Falls error that scored Jake Hatch (Emerson) and put Giordany Mendoza (Western Oklahoma State) in position to score on Layton’s sacrifice fly.

Glens Falls would score their first run in the following half inning, as Zander Teator (Babson) would single in Kyle McNeff (UMass-Dartmouth).

Hatch would bring in the two Boonville runs in the bottom of the seventh, singling into right scoring Alex Angulo (Gettysburg) and Dylan Mercedes (Mansfield).

The Dragons would put together a rally down to their final out in the top of the ninth, as Nick Marola (Coker) would triple to score Ryan Grace (Colby College) and Johan Sandoval (Bryant and Stratton) after they reached with two outs, but the tying run would get no further than the on deck circle as Connor Brinson (North Greenville) would shut the door.

To go with his day at the plate, Snelson put together his best outing on the mound of the summer en route to his first victory. The righty would go eight innings in the start, allowing four hits, one run and two walks while striking out four.

Batavia Muckdogs 5, Geneva Red Wings 2

A four-run bottom of the eighth propelled the West Division leading Muckdogs (20-9) to the victory over the visiting Red Wings (6-20) at Dwyer Stadium.

After RBI singles from Andrew Eppinger (NJIT) and Jason Shockley (Rutgers) gave the visitors the lead in the opening half, Batavia would get one back in the bottom of the fourth off the RBI single from Adam Agresti (St. John’s).

Cam Carignan’s (Colby-Sawyer College) one-out walk would set the table in the bottom of the eighth, as Rashad Robinson (Bishop State CC) would immediately follow with an RBI double to tie the game. Josh Leadem (University of Rochester) would follow with a single to put runners on the corners, and Lucas Lopez’s (St. Thomas University) single would score Robinson to give Batavia the lead. Trey Bacon’s (Santa Fe College) bases loaded walk and Cristian Bernardini’s (St. John’s) single would pad the lead to three.

Geneva would bring the tying run to the plate with one-out in the top of the ninth, but Jacon Bruning (University of South Alabama) would get a strikeout and groundout to pick up the save in his first appearance for the Muckdogs.

Amsterdam Mohawks 12, Albany Dutchmen 0

Brandon Peterson (NJIT) and Von Baker (Cornell) would combine on the Amsterdam Mohawks (28-2-1) second no-hitter in three games, as they would shut down the Albany Dutchmen (10-18) offense in seven inning run rule victory.

Peterson would go the first six innings, striking out 10 to go with three walks, before turning the ball over to Baker for the final frame where he struck out two.

Bryce Hubbard’s (Mississippi State) sacrifice fly in the second and Jaxon West’s (Florida State) bases-loaded walk in the third gave the Mohawks the 2-0 lead before they exploded for seven in the fourth.

Luke Zeisloft (Maryland) singled home Hubbard for the first run of the fourth before Jared Johnson (Brown) brought in Maximus Martin (Rutgers) and Zeisloft to make it 5-0 Mohawks. Three batters later, Luke Longo (NJIT) would power his fifth home run of the summer, a three-run shot, before West scored later on an error after his double earlier in the inning.

Martin would lead off the fifth with his first home run of the summer campaign to push the lead to double digits. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Eddie Yamin (Dayton) later in the inning would ultimately allow two runs to score, as Johnson scored from second while Bruer Webster (Utah) was hung up in a rundown.

Saugerties Stallions 7, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 2

Andrew Amato (Delaware) continued his torrid pace, homering twice and driving in three in the Stallions (15-11-1) victory over the visiting DiamondDawgs (18-11).

After going 3-for-4 with his two bombs, three driven in, three runs, and triple, Amato put an exclamation point on a week where he went 13-for-20 (.650) with five home runs, 12 runs batted in, 10 runs and nine extra base hits in the last seven days.

Amato’s first home run would be a solo shot that would come in the bottom of the third after Alex Rodriguez’s (Mt. San Antonio) RBI single earlier in the inning. Saugerties would double their lead an inning later off a Mohawk Valley error before Amato scored on a wild pitch that followed his fifth inning triple to make it 5-0 Saugerties.

The DiamondDawgs would take advantage of a Saugerties error of their own in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2, but Amato’s second home run of the evening in the bottom of the seventh would push the lead back up to five and provide the final of 7-2.

Saugerties pitching would combine to strike out 16 DiamondDawgs hitters on the evening, led by starter Quinton Hall (Eastern Kentucky), who struck out a season-high seven across his four innings of work.

Elmira Pioneers 11, Newark Pilots 9

A slugfest in Newark Tuesday night ultimately saw the ‘Pios (16-10) come out victorious, as they defeated the Pilots (6-17) by a score of 11-9.

Elmira would take advantage of five Newark errors in the top of the first that saw them score four runs on what otherwise was just one hit, one walk, and a pair of fielder’s choices. Newark would score one of their own on a wild pitch in the third to make it 4-1 Elmira after three.

In the fifth, Joe Muzio (Eckerd College) would pick up one of four hits on the night, bringing in Wes Gingerrich (Purdue) to push the lead back to four. Newark would respond in the home half however, as Frank Vanzillotta (Brockport) would single in Nick Payne (Centenary University) and Paulie Goodness (Finger Lakes CC) to cut the deficit to two, making it 5-3.

Newark would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on an Elmira error to tie the game before Tim Wagner (Wheaton) scored to give the Pilots their first lead, 6-5.

Elmira would take it right back in the top of the seventh, as Muzio would double to score Nick Bisaccia (Seton Hall) and Spencer Aubin (UMass-Lowell). After John Schroeder (Florida Atlantic) walked, another Newark error would allow Muzio to score and push Schroeder to third, and Schroeder would score one batter later on a passed ball to make it 9-6 Pioneers at the stretch.

The Pilots would respond immediately after. With the bases loaded, Wagner would single in Tatsunori Negishi (Middle Tennessee State) to cut the deficit to three. A wild pitch would then allow Mitchell Kelly (Cortland) to score, and after a walk to Harris McReynolds (Northeast Mississippi CC) to reload the bases, Payne would take a hit by pitch to tie the game.

After leadoff singles from Gingerrich and Muzio in the ninth, Schroeder would come through with a huge two-RBI triple to give Elmira the lead. Brendan Ferrari (UMass-Boston) would come on in the bottom of the ninth for the Pioneers and strikeout the side to pick up his fourth save of the summer.

Auburn Doubledays 10, Niagara Power 0

Auburn (12-15) used an unconventional 10 runs on four hits and one error line score to pick up the seven inning run rule victory over the Niagara Power (15-10-1).

After three and a half quick innings that only saw a total of four men left on base, Auburn scored four runs on no hits in the bottom of the fourth. Benji Ries (Le Moyne) and Jacob Houtz (Mansfield University) each drew RBI walks, while Christian Melillo (Southwestern University) and Ries each scored on wild pitches.

Auburn added one in the bottom of the fifth, as Bobby Stang (Georgia Southern) scored on the RBI groundout from Melillo.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hazel Martinez (Union College- TN) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Houtz, and Stang would follow with a grand slam to make it 10-0.

Niagara would load the bases with one out in the top of the seventh looking to extend the game, but Michael Sills (Wofford) would strike out the next two batters he faced to strike out the side and end the ballgame.

Stang would finish the night 2-for-3 with his grand slam, four runs batted in, three runs and a walk. Huxley Holcombe (Cornell) was dominant in the start for Auburn, going five innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out four en route to his first win of the summer.
