Eight games went off tonight across the league, including a doubleheader sweep by the league’s top team.
Amsterdam Mohawks 3, Utica Blue Sox 0 (Game 1)
Despite both teams getting runners on, the tie remained until a two-run home run by Amsterdam’s Nick Giamarusti (Pittsburgh). A Zach Gardiner (Marshall) sacrifice fly extended the lead in the sixth inning. Aidan Kidd (NJIT), Nolan Lamere (Clarke), and Santhosh Gottam (Brown) combined for the Mohawks shutout. Kidd went into the fourth inning and recorded five strikeouts.
Amsterdam Mohawks 3, Utica Blue Sox 1 (Game 2)
Chris Fernandez (Felician) got Utica on the board first, scoring off an error in the third inning. Amsterdam scored in the final three innings, including the game-winner by Giamarusti in the sixth inning. Conner Whittaker (Florida State) pitched three innings of one-hit relief and received the win.
Elmira Pioneers 13, Newark Pilots 0
Elmira reached an early decision thanks to crooked numbers in the first, fourth and fifth innings of play. Right fielder Cooper Smith (Seton Hall) led the Pioneers with three RBIs, while five other players added at least one. Tristan Ciampa (Northern Essex CC) pitched five innings and allowed two hits en route to the win.
Oneonta Outlaws 5, Saugerties Stallions 6
Saugerties took an early lead off a second-inning two-run home run by Garrett Michel (Virginia Tech). The Stallions maintained the lead into the fifth inning, where Oneonta tacked on four runs, leaving Saugerties to add another run to tie the game. The tie held into the tenth inning when Michel stepped up again, delivering the final blow as a sacrifice fly.
Boonville Baseball Club 1, Watertown Rapids 12
Watertown got the bats going early. The Rapids tagged Boonville starter Ryan McWilliams (Charleston) with seven earned runs before he could get an out. Watertown added three more runs in the middle innings for a seven-inning victory. Elvis Lopez (Bloomfield) led the Rapids, going two for four and driving in 2 runs. Wyatt Parliament (Rutgers) struck out seven batters in five innings to get the win.
Glens Falls Dragons 1, Albany Dutchmen 7
Albany took a two-run lead into the fourth, where Ty Gallagher (Herkimer CC) put out a two-run home run. The Dutchmen got 17 runners on base in the win, and Gallagher led the team with two RBIs. Mike DiMartino (UAlbany) started with four shutout innings for Albany.
Auburn DoubleDays 1, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 0
Ryan Cesarini (St. Joseph’s) scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, giving Auburn a slim lead. That was all they’d need with Eddie Rives (Ithaca) pitching a six-inning shutout. Mohawk Valley’s Troy Butler (Binghamton) receives the loss despite allowing one hit in six innings.
Geneva Red Wings 5, Niagara Power 6
After Geneva scored the first three runs, Niagara went on a five-run scoring stretch capped by Andrew Fairbrother (NCCC), taking home on a wild pitch. After Geneva scored in the seventh, catcher Andrew Whinney (Holy Cross) tied the game in the eighth with an RBI single. Cadyn Karl (Kansas State) scored in the tenth to make it a walk-off for the Power.
