ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Lumberjacks second trip to Oneonta was very similar to the first trip of the season.

Just like June 2, it was a rainy and cool night at Damaschke Field. The game in early June was postponed to Wednesday as a part of a doubleheader that was able to be played.

The Oneonta Outlaws won both games against the Boonville Lumberjacks by a score of 5-4 and 9-8.

In both games, the scoring got started early for both teams. In the first inning of game one, the Lumberjacks scored two runs.

The first four batters of the inning reached base with Eli Snelson and Jake Hatch recording singles. Oneonta’s starter Joseph Trombley responded by getting the next three batters out.

Oneota then scored four runs between the first and second inning. Designated hitter Logan Haskell hit an RBI double while Jack Hopko, Jarod Wade and Logan Waldschmidt all hit RBI singles.

In the second game, Boonville’s catcher Joshua Lopez hit a single to bring in Snelson after his leadoff double. Oneonta answered again when they scored four runs between the second and third inning.

Boonville’s second starter Bryce Collis hit the first two batters in the second inning and Oneonta second baseman Christopher Ubner brought them both in on a single later in the inning. Waldschmidt added another run on a single in the third inning.

The Lumberjacks were unable to answer in the middle innings in both games. They scored zero runs between the second and fourth innings while the Outlaws scored a combined seven runs.

Boonville came alive late in both games with a combined nine runs between the fifth and seventh innings. The Lumberjacks left the tying runner on base in the last inning of both games.

In the first game, Jacob Reeves, Jack Gazdack and Snelson all hit singles for Boonville with Snelson’s bringing in a run in the seventh. But right hander Ryan Myles entered the game in relief and recorded the last two outs for the save.

In the seventh inning of the second game, Devonte Bailey led off with a hit for Boonville and Santiago Jimenez eventually hit a sacrifice fly to bring him home from third base. But Myles started the seventh inning for the Outlaws, didn’t allow any more runs and recorded the save again.

Bailey and Snelson stood out for Boonville by having four hits each between the two games. On the Oneonta side. Haskell had four hits and two RBIs while Waldschmidt had three hits and three RBIs.

Trombley and Joel Hayner were the winning pitchers for Oneonta while Alden Halfinger and Griff Minor received the losses for Boonville.

Boonville will host Glen Falls for the first time this season on Thursday night. Oneonta will go on the road to Watertown.
