The Mohawks scored early and often and poured in on in the ninth with a 7-run inning to defeat the Albany Dutchmen 15-1 on Wednesday night at Keenholts Park.

Dakota Duffalo (Utah) hit an RBI single in the first inning that scored Zach Eldred (Brockport) and then Jaxon West hit into a double play where the first basemen touched first and required the shortstop to make the tag to end the inning, however Cam Gurney (Utah) scored before the tag was applied to make it 2-0.

In the third, Dakota Duffalo and Bryce Hubbard (Mississippi State) drove in Carlos Martinez (Pitt) and Cam Gurney with RBI singles to make it 4-0.

Jalen DeBose (FAU) singled to left to drive in Jaxon West in the fourth and Cam Gurney drove in Zach Eldred in the fifth to make it 6-0.

In the seventh Carlos Martinez scored on a Zach Eldred groundout and Gage Miller (Bishop State) scored on a Luke Longo sac-fly increasing the lead to 8-0.

The Mohawks scored 7 in the ninth as Zach Eldred and Luke Longo each hit RBI doubles. Jared Johnson (Brown) hit a 2-run single, Jaxon West (Alabama) followed with an RBI double and Alex Irizarry (Maryland) capped it off with a 2-run single.

12 players recorded the Mohawks 18 hits. Dakota Duffalo led the way with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Zach Eldred, Cam Gurney, Jared Johnson and Jaxon West all had 2 hits. Eldred, Luke Longo and West all hit doubles. Eldred, Longo, Duffalo, West and Alex Irizarry all had multiple RBI.

The Mohawks have now won 6 in a row, however yesterday’s doubleheader against Boonville required a big comeback and a late inning scare between both games. That was not the case today as the Mohawks were in control throughout. After the game Jaxon West said, “I think we kind of went through the motions yesterday and didn’t give our best effort as a team. The coaching staff made us aware of that, so we came out today with a little fire under our tail and executed a lot better where we needed to do and played where we’re capable of playing.”

On the mound the Mohawks only allowed 3 hits in the game. Carson Pierce (Oklahoma) started and went 4 innings, allowing 1 hit which came in the fourth inning, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Jack Brodsky went the next 2, allowing 1 hit, no walks and 4 strikeouts. Joey Colucci (Maryland) pitched a perfect seventh and eighth with 2 strikeouts. Carlos Martinez (Pitt) closed it out as he allowed 1 hit, 1 run that scored on a wild pitch, 1 walk and struck out the side.

With the 15-1 win, the Mohawks move to 15-1 on the season, while the Dutchmen fall to 5-10. The Mohawks return home on Thursday to host the Watertown Rapids at 6:35. It will be Teachers Night, Lead Poisoning Night sponsored by Montgomery County Dept of Health, Thirsty Thursday with BOGO Draft Miller Lite drafts through the fourth inning and City of Amsterdam Night.

The Albany Dutchmen (5-10) fell to the Amsterdam Mohawks (15-1) 15-1 on Wednesday at home.

The Mohawks came out hot scoring two runs in the first inning and never looked back. Their biggest scoring inning was the ninth, when they scored seven.

Jackson Smith (Kankakee CC) was the only Dutchmen pitcher to not allow a run. He pitched one inning and struck out two Mohawks batters.

Mario Cubello (St. John Fisher) had the first hit for the Dutchmen with a single in the fourth. The Dutchmen finally had more movement on the base paths in the ninth when JT Vance (Mississippi College) drew a lead off walk. Mike Talavera (HVCC/Uncommitted) later doubled to advance Vance to third, and Vance would score on a wild pitch in the next at-bat.
