West Division Player of the Week: Christian Melillo, Auburn DoubleDays

West Division Pitcher of the Week: Gardner Meeks, Elmira Pioneers

Auburn DoubleDays outfielder Christian Melillo (Southwestern) has been selected as the West Division Player of the Week after recording nine hits, four runs and 10 RBI during the DoubleDays’ 2-3 week.

Melillo was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with one run, two walks, and three RBI via a three-run home run during a 16-10 win at Geneva on Tuesday.

During Auburn’s 10-0 win against Elmira on Friday, Melillo registered a single, a triple, and a home run to finish the contest with two runs scored and four RBI. Melillo closed out the week with one run scored and three RBI during a 7-6 loss at Elmira on Sunday.

Right-handed pitcher Gardner Meeks (Roanoke) of the Elmira Pioneers is the West Division Pitcher of the Week following his first start of the summer on Thursday against Geneva. During the first game of a doubleheader between the Pioneers and the Red Wings, which was a seven-inning contest, Meeks tossed a complete-game shutout to lead the Pios to victory. In 7.0 innings of work, Meeks allowed just three hits, one walk and zero runs with five strikeouts to improve his record to 2-1 this summer.
