The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) recognized a trio of standout performers with weekly accolades for the week ending July 10. Mohawk Valley’s Pete Durocher (Manhattan) was crowned the Player of the Week, while Newark’s Chris Lowe (Emerson) and Utica’s Alex Canino (Limestone) shared Co-Pitcher of the Week.Across a six-game stretch where the DiamondDawgs went 5-1, Durocher batted .444 (8-for-18) with nine RBIs and a superb .542 on-base percentage. He produced three multi-hit games and drove in multiple RBIs in all three. Durocher went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of Jamestown on July 7, followed by a three-hit effort with two RBIs and two runs in a 12-3 victory over Boonville. In Albany on July 8, he launched a three-run home run as part of a seven-run second inning en route to an 8-2 win.Recently named an East Division Midseason All-Star, Durocher ranks as one of the league’s top hitters. The outfielder from Emerson, New Jersey, boasts a .348 batting average, ninth-best in the PGCBL, through 32 games for the DiamondDawgs. His 28 RBIs are tied for third-most in the league.On the mound, Lowe continued his outstanding summer campaign for the Newark Pilots with eight one-run innings in a 10-1 win over Geneva on July 7. The start was his longest of the summer. The Emerson College Lion went seven scoreless frames before surrendering one run in his final inning of work. He struck out five versus only one walk against the Red Wings.With the win, Lowe improved to an impressive 5-0 in eight appearances (three starts) for the Pilots. The right-hander has struck out 26 against only eight walks in 37.0 innings. With a 2.67 earned-run average, the Chatham, New Jersey, native ranks seventh in the PGCBL.Canino twirled a gem out of the bullpen to help the Utica Blue Sox preserve a 1-1 tie against the Saugerties Stallions on July 6. He retired 13 consecutive batters before issuing a one-out walk in the seventh inning. The only hit and run allowed by the righty came in the eighth inning, an unearned run scored by the extra-inning ghost runner at second base.Like his counterpart from Newark, Canino is amidst an excellent summer for the Blue Sox. The Blythewood, South Carolina, product is 2-0 with one save and a paltry 1.52 ERA in seven appearances (two starts). In 23.2 innings, he has struck out 24 and has only walked three opposing batters.
