The PGCBL has handed out its first player and pitcher of the week award!

The Player of the Week goes to catcher Jacob Hand (WPI) of the Amsterdam Mohawks, who hit .357 on the week with a pair of home runs and eight runs batted in. Both of those home runs came in a 10-3 win against the Saugerties Stallions on Saturday. In addition, Hand drove in two runs in Friday’s season-opening win against the Glens Falls Dragons and had an RBI double in Sunday’s win against the Stallions. The Mohawks are off to a 4-0 start to the season.

Hand, a freshman from Niskayuna N.Y., is coming off his first season at WPI, where he hit .313 for the Engineers this past season.

The Pitcher of the Week goes to Christian Coombes (St. Peter’s) of the Oneonta Outlaws. Coombes threw a complete game on Saturday against the Watertown Rapids, striking out 13 in a 3-2 Outlaws victory. The Outlaws are off to a 2-1 start to the season.

Coombes, a junior hailing from Ontario, Canada, pitched 21 innings across 19 appearances for the St. Peter’s Peacocks in 2022.

Tune in next week to see who the next winners are!
