Zach Eldred (Brockport) had a huge game as he collected 4 hits, homered, drove in 6 runs and scored 3 as the Amsterdam Mohawks defeated the Watertown Rapids 16-7 on the road Sunday.

Amsterdam set the tone early as 3 Watertown errors in the first inning led to a 4-runs. In the second, Alex Irizarry (Maryland) led off with a walk and Gage Miller (Bishop State) followed with a 2-run home run, his third in 2 days. Four batters later, Zach Eldred hit a 3-run home run to make it 9-0 Mohawks in the second.

Watertown got on the scoreboard in the fifth as Malachi Flaherty (St. Joseph’s) reached on a fielder’s choice and drove in Colin Hageman (UW-Stout) making it 9-1.

In the sixth, Brett Myers (Oswego) reached on a dropped third strike which allowed Jax Miller (Walsh) to score and the next batter, Lachlan Rees (New England), was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in Nick Mazzotta (Fairleigh Dickinson) making it 9-3.

The Mohawks bats came back to life in the seventh as Dakota Duffalo (Utah) unloaded a 3-run double off the wall increasing the Mohawks lead to 12-3, but Watertown answered right back as Gaetan Grandelli (West Chester) hit a grand slam in the bottom seventh to make it 12-7.

The Mohawks scored a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth to make it 16-7. Zach Eldred hit a 2-run single in the eighth while Alex Irizarry and Von Baker (Courtland) added RBI singles in the ninth.

Evan Siary (Mississippi State) got the win improving to 2-0 as he went the first 5 allowing 1 unearned run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Josh Davis (Clemson) allowed 2 runs in the sixth, Colin Maloney (Rhode Island) gave up the grand slam in the seventh and Von Baker pitched 2 scoreless innings to finish the game.

Jared Duquette (St. Michael’s) took the loss for the Rapids falling to 0-2 as he allowed 9 runs (4 earned), on 6 hits with 2 walks and 1 strikeout.

The Mohawks improved to 8-0 with the win and will host the All-Stars Academy on Monday Night at 6:35. The Rapids fall to 3-7 on the season and will be on the road to face the Utica Blue Sox on Monday.
