East Division Pitcher of the Week: Brandon Peterson, Amsterdam Mohawks
Mitch Balint (Carson-Newman) of the DiamondDawgs has been selected as the East Division Player of the Week. Balint tallied nine hits, nine RBI, seven runs scored and two home runs during Mohawk Valley’s 4-1 week. He went 3 for 5 at the plate with three runs scored and six RBI, including a three-run home run during Mohawk Valley’s 14-13 win over the Oneonta Outlaws on Friday. Balint provided another home run, a single, three runs scored and two RBI during a 6-4 win at Boonville on Saturday. He smashed two doubles during the second half of Sunday’s doubleheader at Glens Falls.
Balint has recorded at least one hit in all 12 games that he has played this summer. He currently leads the league in RBI (24), doubles (9) and hits (23).
Amsterdam right-handed pitcher Brandon Peterson (NJIT) has been named the East Division Pitcher of the Week due to his performance on the mound during the team’s 11-1 win over Glens Falls on Tuesday. Peterson started the game on the mound and allowed zero hits, three walks and zero earned runs with 10 strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work to earn his first pitching decision victory of the season. Peterson currently holds a 0.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts through two starts this season (9.0 innings pitched).
