ALBANY, N.Y. — The Albany Dutchmen picked up a shutout win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs by a final of 9-0 at Keenholts Park on Wednesday night.
Albany carried a no-hitter into the top of the eighth before surrendering the one and only DiamondDawgs hit with two outs. JT Larson (North Florida) got the start for Albany, and worked five hitless with six strikeouts, then handed the ball to the bullpen of Aidan O’Connor (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Danny Kelleher (Hofstra) who held it down the rest of the way.
Albany jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning behind back to back RBI singles from Chance Checca (Herkimer) and Anthony Raimo Jr. (Rhode Island), who each went on to have two-hit nights in an 11-hit Dutchmen outburst.
Tyler Young (Lehigh) and Caden Shapiro (Princeton) each picked up two-hit nights with a combined five RBIs between the duo.
Albany now sits at 8-3, and find themselves one game behind Amsterdam in the East Division. The Dutchmen return to action Friday at 7:00 in Oneonta, before returning home for a 5:00 doubleheader against Mohawk Valley on Saturday.
