Dutchmen Stumble in Amsterdam

The Albany Dutchmen traveled to face the Amsterdam Mohawks on Monday and were defeated by a score of 10-3. The Dutchmen have just one home game remaining tonight against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs which will be Fan Appreciation Night.

Kody Ortman (Auburn) got the Mohawks started in the second inning when he hit his third homer of the year to break the seal and put the Mohawks ahead 2-0. Amsterdam tacked on four more runs in the third, two unearned, after a Billy Creighton (Schenectday County CC) throwing error to give them a six-run margin.

After the Mohawks tacked on another four runs, the Dutchmen bats came alive in the late innings. First in the seventh Steve Anderson (Georgetown) jacked his team-leading sixth homer of the season to get Albany on the board. In the ninth Andrew Deeds tripled (Morehead State) and Anderson hit a sac-grounder to bring in two more runs, finishing the game out at 10-3.

Creighton struggled through five innings in the loss for the Dutchmen giving up eight runs (six earned) on six hits and six strikeouts; he was tagged with the loss. Mark Leiter Jr. (NJIT) recorded the win in his start for Amsterdam. He went six innings of no-hit baseball striking out 13 and walking two.

Albany managed just four hits in the loss led by Anderson's two late inning RBIs. Jude Vidrine (Lamar) had a monster night for the Mohawks hitting two home runs while going 4-6 at the plate with six RBIs.

The Dutchmen will take on the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs tonight at 7 p.m inside Bob Bellizzi Field. In honor of the Dutchmen faithful tonight's game will be called Fan Appreciation Night with great prize giveaways for those in attendance!
