PGCBL Names Four Players as Week Three Honorees
East Division
Pitcher of the Week: Matt Murtagh, Saugerties (Siena University)
Player of the Week: Gabriel Rivera, Amsterdam (Rutgers University)
Saugerties' own Matt Murtagh had a dominant week on the mound. The righty, who was part of the 2025 Stallions Championship team, made 2 appearances this past week out of the bullpen and in those 7 innings allowed no runs on no walks and just 1 hit surrendered. Opponents had a .048 batting average off Murtagh while he collected 6 strikeouts.
Murtagh was the winning pitcher last Monday in Oneonta as the Stallions defeated the Outlaws 4-2. He allowed 1 hit in 4 innings of relief and recorded 4 strikeouts. He pitched again on Sunday when the Stallions defeated Glens Falls 5-0 at home, throwing 3 hitless innings with 2 punch outs.
The Amsterdam Mohawks went a perfect 5-0 this week, thanks in large part to third baseman Gabriel Rivera. Collecting 9 hits in 18 at-bats for an even .500 batting average, Rivera had 2 home runs, 4 doubles, 15 RBI, 7 runs scored and stole 3 bases.
On Wednesday, Rivera tied the Mohawks team record, which stood alone for 13 years, as he drove in 8 runs. The Mohawks picked up an 18-3 victory as Rivera clubbed two 3-run home runs. On Thursday, with his team trailing 4-2 in the seventh, Rivera stepped in with the bases loaded and produced a 3-run double to put Amsterdam up 5-4 in an eventual 6-5 win over Saugerties.
West Division
Geneva righty Caden Breault racked up 11 strikeouts in 9 innings pitched this past week. He did not allow a run in either of his outings and held hitters to a .100 batting average surrendering just 3 hits.
Breault's first outing came on Tuesday in a 16-14 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs. In that slugfest, Breault provided 2 hitless innings with 4 strikeouts. In Saturday's doubleheader at Newark, Breault pitched a complete game shutout for the Red Wings in a 7-0 win. He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts in that game.
In a 6-1 week for the Batavia Muckdogs, Jackson Inman went 13-for-22, good for a .591 batting average. With a homer and 2 doubles, Inman drove in 10 runs and scored 5 while stealing 4 bases. In Tuesday's 16-14 win at Geneva, Inman reached base 5 times with 2 doubles and 2 walks and drove in 5 runs while scoring 3.
