After earlier declaring that they, along with seven other teams, were forming the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, the Albany Dutchmen have now announced that they will be playing their games this summer in a new facility.

After calling Bleecker Stadium home for their first two years, the Dutchmen have reached an agreement with the City of Albany and the College of St. Rose to spend the summer at Bellizzi Stadium in the brand-new Christian Plumeri Sports Complex.

“I am extremely proud to welcome the Albany Dutchmen to Bellizzi Stadium at the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex in the City of Albany,” said Mayor Gerald D. Jennings. “When this complex was first constructed as a partnership between the City of Albany and the College of Saint Rose, one of our main goals was to foster community interaction and athletic opportunities. I am confident that the Dutchmen’s presence here will help accomplish that goal, and give all of our young people the opportunity to learn from some talented athletes. I look forward to the success of the Dutchmen at their new home field as well as the positive benefits our community will continue to enjoy from this partnership.”

The exciting venue move adds another piece to what’s been a busy spring for the Dutchmen. Since Perfect Game, the nation’s number one scouting service, signed on with the eight teams who were formerly a part of the NYCBL, the new league has been receiving a steady stream of national media attention.

“The new field and the move to a new league have our entire organization especially excited for the upcoming summer,” said Dutchmen Vice President and General Manager Jason Brinkman. “Plumeri is a state of the art complex and we are looking forward to providing a full season of baseball, entertainment and activities for the Capital District.”

The move to Plumeri gives the Dutchmen the newest complex in the entire league. Finished in September of 2010, the Plumeri complex was the result of $6 million dollars worth of renovation and is home to the St. Rose Golden Knights during the non-summer months. It is located in what was formally known as Hoffman Park, on Frisbie and McCarty avenues at the foot of I-787 in Albany.

“The facilities at Bellizzi Stadium are the perfect home for summer baseball,” explained Brinkman. “And with its ideal location and ample off-street parking, it will be even easier for fans to come out and enjoy an evening of fun and exciting, affordable entertainment.”

It’s an exciting time for the Dutchmen and one that couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for the relationship with the city. “We truly believe that this will be an agreement that not only benefits us, but the city of Albany as well,” stated Dutchmen President and Co-Owner, Paul Samulski. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Mayor Jennings and city officials like John D’Antonio, Bob VanAmburgh, and Michelina Copozzolo Wojton. Not to mention the College of St. Rose for helping open up the complex to us, specifically President Mark Sullivan and VP Marcus Buckley. We’re looking forward to showcasing the talent of our players in the new facilities.”

With many people in the community excited about the new complex and league, the Dutchmen are confident that change will bring about a successful and entertaining summer.
