Saugerties edged out Albany in the tightest game of our six-game slate. Here’s what happened.

Glens Falls Dragons 4, Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 7

Mohawk Valley took the lead in the second inning during a five-hit, four-run attack capped by a two-run single by Pete Durocher (Manhattan). In the third, Noah Lucier (Fairfield) hit another two-run single, and Jimmy Sullivan (Northeastern) drove in a run during the fourth inning for security. This score held until Glens Falls made a ninth-inning push. Cory Listing (Coker) and Phoenix Bowman (Iona) combined to drive in four runs, but it was not enough to complete the comeback. Hayden Duke (UMass-Lowell) received the win, pitching six shutout inning and striking out five batters. The loss was given to Jack O’Connor (Hobart) following his 11 hit, and 6 earned run performance.

Saugerties Stallions 8, Albany Dutchmen 7

The Stallions’ offense got after Dutchmen starter Frankie Sanchez (Southern New Hampshire) early. Sanchez got tagged for six runs over two innings, including two-run singles from Jahlani Rogers (FGCU) and Brandon Fish (UMass-Lowell). After Albany grabbed two back in the fourth inning, Saugerties got another run in the seventh on an Easton Bertrand (Minnesota) single to maintain their advantage. Trouble struck the Stallions in the bottom of the inning when their pitching staff allowed seven baserunners and five runs. Nico Amory (Marist) then scored in the top of the eighth after a bases-loaded hit by pitch. The Stallions staved off the Dragons to win, despite a bases-loaded jam in the eighth. Fish led both teams offensively, going two for four with four RBIs.

Oneonta Outlaws 4, Amsterdam Mohawks 8

Oneonta held down Amsterdam’s attack until the fourth inning. Over the next three innings, the Mohawks scored eight runs, highlighted by a solo home run for Connor Moore (Florida State). Oneonta’s offense also awoke in the sixth inning, culminating in a three-run triple for Devin Boone (Marist). Michael O’Shaughnessy (Davidson) scored once in the win and drove in a team-leading two runs. The Mohawks used a group pitching effort to get the win. Starter Arlon Butts (Rend Lake CC) led the team with three innings as the first of six pitchers. Matthew DuBois (St Peter’s) received the loss after allowing all eight runs. With this victory, the Mohawks are the first team to 30 wins this season. The West-leading Utica Blue Sox are the only other team with more than 20.

Utica Blue Sox 5, Elmira Pioneers 8

Utica scored the first five runs of the game over three innings. This run included a two-run single by Kade Reinertson (Valparaiso) in the third. Then, Elmira pulled themselves back into the game with a sacrifice fly in the third and a three-run fourth. The Pioneers tacked on four more in the seventh and eighth innings to complete the comeback. Aiden Blake (UMass-Boston) was the only Pioneer with multiple RBIs, driving in two runs. On the other side, Reinertson starred, going one for four with two RBIs. Much of Elmira’s success is Xander Burch’s (Combine Academy), who pitched four two-hit innings of relief.

Newark Pilots 1, Auburn DoubleDays 2

Auburn took their first lead in the fourth when Assaf Lowengart (Mansfield) hit a solo home run with two outs. Matt Kinne’s (Hamilton) RBI single tied the game in the fifth, but Ryan Cesarini (St Joseph’s) scored on a wild pitch to regain the lead for Auburn in the sixth. Gene McGough (Radford) pitched the bulk of the innings for Auburn, allowing the lone run and striking out nine batters. Meanwhile, Price Daube (Seminole State) pitched every inning in the Newark loss, allowing five baserunners. The teams combined for six hits in the game.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks 0, Batavia Muckdogs 4

Batavia sent a message early, getting offense from the bat of Daniel Burroway (Alvin CC), who hit an RBI single. Errors allowed the Muckdogs to score two in the sixth, and then in the seventh, Brian Fry (Toledo) drove in another run with a single. The win went to Jackson Murphy (Roanoke) after seven shutout innings. AJ Winger (Texas Southern) was responsible for the final two innings and preserved the shutout. The Tarp Skunks got nine hits and drew four walks but walked away empty-handed. Eddie Galatas (North Georgia) got the loss, pitching five innings and allowing nine runners.
