Blue Sox Stomp Stallions 10-2

UTICA, N.Y. - The Utica Blue Sox were able to rally to a 10-2 win over tjhe Saugerties Stallions on Wednesday night at Donovan Stadium.

Brendan McNerney’s (RPI) pitching played a big role in the Blue Sox win, as he allowed only 1 run off of 4 hits. He earned the winning on Wednesday night and lowered his season ERA to 3.52 ERA.

The Stallions started off the scoring early in the game as they gained a run at the top if the first inning. Jack Gonzalez (Stetson) hit a double so Luke Pettersen (Minnesota) could gain a run.  This would be the only run of the game until the Blue Sox took over at the bottom of the sixth inning.

The sixth inning proved to be just what the Blue Sox needed as they took a 5-1 lead over the Stallions. Zane Harris (Wright State) put the Blue Sox on the board when he hit a single that allowed Kyle Norman (Buffalo) and Taylor Olmstead (Southern New Hampshire) to cross home, giving the Blue Sox a 2-1 lead. This play started a series of scoring for the Blue Sox as they tallied three more runs throughout the inning.

At the top of the eight, the Stallions were able to cut the Blue Soxs’ lead by 1 run when Mark Meyer (Marshall) hit a single which put the score at 5-2. Blue Sox were able to answer back as they went on to score 5 runs during the bottom of the eighth inning. This put the Blue Sox at a comfortable 10-2 lead, leading them to the win.

With the loss the Stallions fall to 15-7 for the season, Avery Short (Siena) takes the loss for pitching. Short allowed 5 runs off of 8 hits in 6 innings pitched. Stallions next game is on the road on Thursday when that take on the Glens Falls Dragons at East Field. With the win the Blue Sox advance their record to 11-21. The Blue Sox continue their homestand on Friday night with their first home double header of the season as they take on the Oneonta Outlaws. The first game is set to start at 5:05 at Donovan Stadium.
