Former Oneonta Outlaw reaches big leaguesCarlos Asuaje (Oneonta 2011) is now in the big leagues. Asuaje was called up Wednesday by the San Diego Padres for the final stretch of the regular season. The second baseman collected his first two major league hits on Friday against San Francisco. During the minor league season, Asuaje hit .321 with nine home runs, 69 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. He posted an OPS of .851 and totaled 52 extra base hits. In his minor league career, Asuaje had a .292 batting average with 33 home runs and 251 RBIs. Asuaje was drafted in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox and was traded to the Padres in the deal that sent Craig Kimbrel to the Boston Red Sox. He is now the eighth PGCBL alumnus to be playing in the MLB. The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game, the nation's largest independent scouting service. Its alumni include more than 1,500 PGCBL/PG participants who were either drafted by MLB or played professional baseball.
