Late Ninth Inning Rally Cut Short, Elmira’s Win Streak Snapped At Nine

The Pioneers enjoyed their day off as they looked to clinch the division today with a win against the Jamestown Jammers.

The Pioneers struck first after loading the bases in the bottom of the second. Lucas Denney (Seattle U.) would score on a wild pitch and Nick Graham (Penn State) would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Connor Burns (Samford) to get a 2-0 lead.

The Jammers would rally in the fifth inning for five runs to overtake the Pioneers 5-2.

After the Jammers added a run in the sixth, Blake Buckman (U. of Louisiana at Monroe) would cut the lead to 6-3 with a hot hit to third base.

After Jamestown brought in another run, a RBI double from Rob Perteet (Samford) would bring the score 7-4 entering the eighth inning.

After the Jammers extended the lead 9-4, Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) would spark a rally in the bottom of the ninth with a two RBI double brining in Storm Wilson (Kentucky) and Rob Perteet. Connor Burns (Samford) would bring in Plantier on a single but would be thrown out at second trying to stretch the extra base hit ending the game 9-7.

Spencer Kulman (Wofford) receives the loss giving up five runs on five hits and two strikeouts. Bradley Griggs (University of Texas at San Antonio) takes the win on four runs, six hits and striking out four. Cory Blessing (Ohio U.) earns the save with two and a third innings pitched in which he struck out four on two hits and three runs.
