Lineup Anchors: Jamestown Jammers 2017 Infield Preview

Editor’s Note: This is the second in a series of three stories previewing the Jamestown Jammers’ roster for the upcoming Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season, which is set to begin June 1. Today’s installment will feature the Jammers infielders, followed by outfielders in Monday’s edition. The pitching staff was featured in Saturday’s edition.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- Manager Anthony Barone is going to count on the experience and Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League success of a pair of 2016 all-stars to help man his infield this coming season.

Returning for their second seasons in Jamestown will be catcher Christ Conley and first baseman Ben Brookover while middle infielder Alex O’Donnell will be back for his third campaign with Barone. Newcomers to Jamestown include catcher Jimmy Versage, middle infielders Ryan Markey and Nick Bernick, and third basemen Chris Estrada and Ben Kocher.

“We talked…with our assistant coaches, and got some feedback from players as far as character. The first thing I always ask college coaches is what kind of character do the kids have,” Barone said. “We want to bring great character guys to Jamestown. It’s a lot easier when you have 35 guys with good character.”
