Today is the third day of the 2015 PGCBL Postseason.

Last Night’s Games:

Amsterdam 15 Mohawk Valley 4: The Amsterdam Mohawks scored seven runs in the first two innings to lead them to a 15-4 win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs in game one of the East Division Championship Series.

Amsterdam climbed out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Handsome Monica RBI single, a Scott Manea RBI single and a Macy Holdsworth two-RBI double. In the second, Justin Yurchak hit a three-run home run to extend the Amsterdam lead to 7-0 and a bases loaded walk in the fourth made it an 8-0 game.

An errant pickoff throw in the top of the fifth got Mohawk Valley on the scoreboard, scoring one run. The DiamondDawgs got another run back in the sixth on a Chris Rave RBI double. Amsterdam quickly responded as two errors and an RBI groundout in the home half of the inning plated three runs. Mohawk Valley got two runs back in the eighth on a Troy Scocca RBI double and a Rave RBI single. Amsterdam scored the final runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth on two bases loaded walks, a Riley Mahan RBI single and a wild pitch.

Amsterdam’s 15 runs are the most in PGCBL postseason history. The previous high was 13 (Aug. 8, 2012 by Amsterdam).

Zach Logue, who led the PGCBL with wins in the regular season with seven, picked up the victory after tossing six innings of two-run ball (one earned). The southpaw struck out five batters and allowed just four hits. Mohawk Valley starter Adam Ashenfarb took the loss after allowing the first eight Amsterdam runs in five innings of work.

Victor 6 Elmira 1: The Victor RailRiders used a strong start from Mitch Patishall to lead them to a 6-1 win over the Elmira Pioneers at Dunn Field in game one of the West Division Championship Series.

Patishall allowed just one unearned run in eight innings of work while striking out six batters and giving up just two hits to get the win for Victor.

Three errors in the top of the second inning got Victor an early 3-0 lead. Elmira got one run back in the bottom of the third on a Victor error. Victor tacked on two more runs in the seventh on an error and a Chris Lehane RBI single. An additional insurance run scored in the top of the ninth on a Chris Intocaso RBI single.

Elmira starter Kyano Cummings struck out seven batters in six innings, but gave up three Victor runs (one earned) to take the loss.
