The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the winners of the PGCBL Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the week of June 24 through June 30.

Dylan Smith (Auburn) of the Amsterdam Mohawks and Josh Anderson (Florida International) of the Glens Falls Golden Eagles have been selected as the co-PGCBL Players of the Week. James Davitt (Bryant) of the Albany Dutchmen was chosen as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week.

Dylan Smith (Auburn) is the starting designated hitter for the defending league champion Amsterdam Mohawks. He is the second Mohawk in as many weeks to win a share of the Player of the Week award. Smith helped the Amsterdam Mohawks to a 4-2 record last week. The rising sophomore from Auburn University of Southeastern Conference batted .550 (11-for-20) with 13 RBI, six runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, 22 total bases, a 1.100 slugging percentage and a .545 on-base percentage. Smith topped all league hitters in batting average, RBI, total bases and slugging percentage. He closed the week on a five-game hit streak and reached base safely via hit or hit-by-pitch in all six games. Smith logged four multi-hit, three multi-RBI and three multi-run games as the Amsterdam designated hitter. He struck out just twice.

The Pinson, Ala., native slugged the Mohawks to an 11-3 victory over the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at Doubleday Field on June 26. Smith clubbed a solo home run in the fourth inning as part of back-to-back home runs and then mashed a three-run blast into the left field trees in the seventh inning to give Amsterdam an 8-3 advantage. The following evening, Smith scored two runs in a rain-shortened victory over the Elmira Pioneers. He drilled an RBI double during the decisive sixth inning and came around to score the eventual winning run. The Auburn University product led all Amsterdam swingers with two hits and one RBI in a Friday defeat to Glens Falls. Dylan recorded his third multi-hit and second four-RBI game of the week on Saturday night at Utica. He went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one scored as Amsterdam mounted a late-game comeback. Sunday, Smith mashed out three more hits, drove in three runs and scored another in a 7-3 rain-shortened win at Mohawk Valley. He is the second Amsterdam hitter in as many weeks to win a share of the PGCBL Player of the Week award.

Josh Anderson (Florida International), a 2011 first team All-PGCBL selection, is a starting utility infielder for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Anderson re-signed with the Golden Eagles on Thursday afternoon and provided an instant spark that helped the team close the week in first place of the PGCBL East with a four-game winning streak. In four games, Anderson batted .526 (10-for-19) with six RBI, five runs scored, two home runs, 17 total bases, an .895 slugging percentage and a .571 on-base percentage. He recorded at least one hit in all four games and had at least one RBI in three of four contests. Defensively, Anderson started games at first, second and third base for head coach John Mayotte.

The San Diego, Calif., native returned to the starting line-up of the Golden Eagles on Thursday night for a home game against the Utica Brewers. Anderson went 5-for-5 with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI in a 9-8 victory. He became the first player in the PGCBL this season to post five hits in a single game and fifth player to score four runs in a game. Anderson singled, doubled and homered in his first three at-bats and then stroked an RBI single as part of a three-run seventh that gave Glens Falls an 8-7 lead. In the ninth, Anderson hit a one-out single and eventually came around to score the winning run on a walk-off hit by Raphael Gladu (College Lafleche). Friday night at Amsterdam, Anderson made an immediate impact when he launched a three-run home run in the first inning and Glens Falls never trailed in a 6-3 victory.  Saturday night, Josh recorded one of just two hits off of Albany starter James Davitt (Bryant). Sunday, Anderson went 2-for-4 against Newark and increased a one-run lead for the Golden Eagles to two in the seventh with a two-out RBI single. Josh is the first Glens Falls player to receive weekly recognition from the PGCBL this season. He is a two-time PGCBL Player of the Week award winner. Anderson was the PGCBL Player of the Week for “Week 7” of the 2011 season.

James Davitt (Bryant) is a starting pitcher for the nationally-ranked Albany Dutchmen. Davitt, a reliever in the spring as a freshman at Northeast Conference champion Bryant, made his second start of the summer on Saturday night against the Glens Falls Golden Eagles at East Field. In a game that was not decided until the bottom of the 16th, Davitt worked seven strong innings and held the Golden Eagles to one run on two hits; he walked one and struck out two. Davitt did not allow a hit until the fourth inning and he carried a shutout into the fifth with the Dutchmen leading, 2-0. The rising sophomore from Bryant allowed just three Golden Eagles to safely advance past first base. The 18-year-old faced three men over the minimum and just once opposed more than four batters in a single inning. Davitt seated 11 of the final 12 men he faced and left with a 2-1 lead. The Wallingford, Conn., native is the third Albany pitcher in three years to be named PGCBL Pitcher of the Week.
