Golden Eagles cap wild win over Brewers with walk-off single

Glens Falls, NY -  The Golden Eagles were victorious in Glens Falls on a rainy Thursday night as they defeated the Utica Brewers, 9 -8 . In a game that had more twists and turns than a car commercial, it truly did come down to the last out. Raphael Gladu (Lafleche) won the game for Glens Falls on a bases loaded, two out, 0-2 count RBI single off of Utica's Ryan Butzer (Davenport).  Matt Eckleman (St. Louis) blew the save in the top of the 9th but held on to get the victory for the Eagles; while Ryan Butzer was saddled with the loss in a single inning of work.

Michael Pierson had a strong showing offensively for Utica, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored while Jay Gonzalez (Auburn) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored after pinch hitting for the Brew Crew.

The starter for Utica, Eric Brothers (Sioux Falls), wasn’t particularly effective. He worked 4.1 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits and four walks as his offense kept him in the game. Eagles starter Matt Portland (Northwestern) pitched 5.1 strong innings, himself giving up only two runs, but is charged with four after reliever Cory Folk (Buffalo) allowed the inherited runners to score in the sixth inning.

Ramon Laureano (NEO) and Josh Anderson (FIU) led the Eagles offensively as collectively they went 7-for-9 with seven runs scored and five RBI including three home runs. They made a power showcase of Brewers pitching as they hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning off of starter Eric Brothers. Laureano started off the scoring in the bottom of the first on a solo Home Run and added a two-run shot in the fifth. Anderson had a glorious return to Glens Falls and he sprayed five hits across the outfield and provided a shot in the arm offensively.

Utica returns to action on Friday June 28th as they play host to the Cooperstown Hawkeyes at 6pm and Glens Falls travels to Amsterdam for a 7pm start.
