Rams use eight-run surge to bull past Trail Blazers

Watertown (4-5) scored eight runs in the middle innings to defeat visiting Adirondack (3-6). Dominic Lopez (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) drove in four runs to pace the Rams. Anthony Magovney (Buffalo) picked up the win (1-1) for Watertown while Joe Borelli (Farleigh Dickinson) took the loss for the Trail Blazers.

Adirondack jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Riley Moonan (Farleigh Dickinson) led off the game with a double and came around to score on an RBI single by Austin Hatfield (Memphis). Hatfield and Dominic Fazio (High Point) also came around to score in the inning. Watertown answered right back to take a 4-3 lead with runs coming on RBI singles by Connor Perry (Holy Cross) and JJ Wagner (Pacific) as well as an error by Adirondack second baseman Mike Parsons (Rider).

Adirondack tied the game with two runs in the third on a two-run home run by Alex Mata (Saint Leo). Watertown once again took the lead on JJ Wagner’s second RBI single of the game. Watertown then scored eight runs in innings three through six. Dominic Lopez’s bases-clearing double in the third helped break the game open for the Rams.

Watertown starter Anthony Magovney hurled five innings allowing five runs (four earned) to pick up the win. Adirondack starter Joe Borelli tossed three innings allowing nine runs (six earned).

Rams catcher Connor Perry finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Perry also caught two Trail Blazer runners stealing in his nine innings behind the dish. Tyler Fullerton (Mississippi State) also finished 3-for-5 for Watertown. Fullerton tallied two RBIs as well as a double.

Adirondack used a balanced attack to score seven runs. Alex Simone (West Alabama) hit a home run in the sixth. Riley Moonan posted a line of 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. The Trail Blazers finished with eleven hits against two Rams pitchers.

The two teams meet again for a doubleheader tomorrow at Adirondack. The first pitch of the first game is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
