Elmira, NY- The Pioneers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Watertown Wizards on Monday night at Dunn Field. 3,292 fans were in attendance as the Pioneers struck early but were stymied by a four seventh inning as the Wizards held on for the victory.

The Pioneers got off to a good start against Watertown starter Matt McClain (St. Mary's TX) as they would plate a run in the bottom of the first as Aarron Nardone (Delaware St.) drove in Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Delta) from third to make it 1-0. Elmira would make it 2-0 in the third inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Zac Bellinger (VCU) with Patterson again scoring easily from third.

Pioneers starter Craig Pearcy (Morehead State) would shine for Elmira in his second start of the season. Pearcy yielded just one run through six innings of work giving up two hits and striking out five batters. The Wizards would make magic of their own in the seventh inning as they turned a 2-1 defict into a 5-2 lead. The big hit in the inning came off the bat of Derek Hagy (Texas Pan-American) as he singled into center scoring two runs to give Watertown their first lead of the ballgame.

Elmira would try to rally in the ninth inning as Landon Prentiss (VCU) lead off the inning with a double down the left field line. With a runner in scoring position Mike Peters (Alcorn State) picked up the final out of the game as Nardone grounded to second base to end Elmira's comeback bid.

The PGCBL and the Amsterdam Mohawks will host the 2012 All-Star game Tuesday as festivities will kick off at 3:30 with the home run derby and game to follow at 7:00 pm. The Pioneers will be back at historic Dunn Field on Thursday, July 26th as the Oneonta Outlaws come into town.
