The Oneonta Outlaws edged out the visiting Elmira Pioneers 8-5 on Tuesday evening at Damaschke Field. It was the Outlaws third consecutive win and allowed them to stay in contention for second place in the PGCBL.

Sheldon Lee (San Francisco) returned to the mound to pick up his fourth win for the Outlaws, allowing three runs off seven hits in six innings of work.   He received some strong support from his family, visiting from Washington state and Honolulu, Hawaii.  Lee also received support from Jeremy Rhoades (Illinois State) in relief, and from Clay Bates (Clemson) who picked up his first save of the 2012 season.

The Pioneers offense made a valiant effort, but was unable to get the runs needed for the victory. Clark Wise (Wofford) had three hits, one run and one RBI.  Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Valley) chipped in with two hits, one run and an RBI, while Landon Prentiss (Virginia Commonwealth) added two hits, one run and a stolen base.

The Outlaw hitters showed some renewed vigor, scoring two-out runs in three different innings.  Zac Johnson (Illinois State) had two hits, a walk and three RBI, while Shane Crain (Louisville) had two hits, two runs, a walk and was hit by a pitch.  Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida) had two hits, two runs and an RBI, the highlight being a rare bunt double in the bottom of the first. Oneonta also picked up four more stolen bases to add to their season total of 60 in 72 attempts.

The line score for the evening was Elmira 5 runs, 12 hits and one error and for Oneonta 8 runs, 12 hits and 4 errors in 2:43.

The Outlaws stay at home for a Wednesday evening contest with the visiting Cooperstown Hawkeyes in a continuing battle for the Mayor’s Cup.  The Outlaws presently enjoy a four games to one advantage over the Hawkeyes for the 2012 season.
